NO Tim. Trailers as in car trailer that carries nothing else but car. If it is a Dastle type then of course it needs to be close to car! At somewhere like Silverstone Classic even though my big trailer could be justified left in paddock have taken everything out and put trailer in park. Same at Dijon, Spa etc..... Depends how busy paddock is

Moosehead should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Must admit since getting our Winnie I'm very conscious of how much space I take up in the paddock. As we try to make every meeting a weekend jobbie to make it more worthwhile and a bit of a break I tend to move out the paddock on the day we're not racing. If needs be I leave the trailer out the paddock to but sometimes its just not safe to do that. As we go racing as a family (ma & pa too) I want the camper in the paddock by the race car as it carries the tools etc so I'm not too keen on these meetings where the tender vehicles are forced to be parked somewhere else. I found with meetings such as Silverstone Classic where they tried to keep all the cars together without tenders that there is never anyone with the cars to talk to, however, those with the multi preparers there was always someone you could ask a question to.

Trailer park???? whats one of them??
Must be the area thats covered in race cars and transporters that cant get in the paddock.

I always keep my trailer coupled to the tow car. When it comes to load up at the end of a meeting it hard enough to get the race car near the trailer let alone getting the trailer to the car and tools etc.

This has been a contentious issue forever. My parents used to have a letter to the editor of Track and Traffic magazine posted on the fridge at home which said (and I paraphrase), "I went to the races the other weekend and not only did some of the sports cars arrive on trailers, but some drivers refused to camp at the track like the rest of us. What is the world coming to, when people believe they can only win with a pristine car and are too good to sleep in a tent???" The date on the letter was 1966.

Who personally has been doing this way too long to enjoy tenting anymore. Well, I still like it but my aging body doesn't!

Brilliant, and of course there are still those that do drive cars to races. VSCC members especially.

Unfortunately in any part of daily life there will always be complete idiots who don't understand simple logic. It is not just at race meetings.

I got myself a Jeep Cherokee Tow car just as everyone else bought Motor Homes.

One of our posters, makes his own diesel (perfectly legally) for his motor home. You always know when he's entering a circuit because you can smell fish and chips.

The other thing a lot of people dont realise is the law is very very vague on these things and what licence you need to drive one especially with a trailer in tow, a nasty copper I recon could have you if he wanted to. Look at the size of the things then couple a trailer they really should require the driver to take an HGV artic test IMO. apart from anything else and to make it worse they are left hookers!

Lol.... I read that first that they left hookers. Quite considerate I thought. Especially if they were pre-paid. Maybe Hungaroring.

Yes, I have no problem with the thread; Robert's entitled to make his point especially if triggered by the individual, well known for his negativity, others have identified. However, it is shouting a bit at us, so I have changed it to 'normal'!

Yup, on a serious note I do agree with Al. Some of these things are massive even without a trailer on the end. Add on the usual large vehicle appendages some of them are more like a bus. You are not allowed on the track without passing a test of basic competence (and there are some who are not even very good at that) so why should you be allowed on the road with a what is effectively a vehicle which you would otherwise need an HGV?

Also they generally have a huge rear overhang (the vans not the girls!) and that can cause problems towing as it kicks out the trailer. My mate bought one and it was in the Mini-Winnie class which was below HGV weight and he got into trouble with it on the way to Mallory and ripped the wing mirrors off going through some road works which simply were not wide enough for the thing but he was committed to the manouvere and could no way back out and he is a competent driver. He sold it shortly after.

It's also a shame the government didn't make the towing licence law retrospective as they wanted to originally instead of just for everyone who passed after 1997. That way most of the older drivers who only passed a basic car test would have to take some tuition on towing and larger vehicles.

It is nigh on impossible to make laws retrospective. If you go down that route for one statute you could make criminals of entirely innocent people.

Had they just said that "as of now" anyone without the necessary training cannot ......." then it would be backdating the statute. However I suspect they were frightend by the amount of work involved in actually checking etc. Especially as under Labour the police were there to stop us from photgraphing buildings rather than catch criminals.

Moosehead should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Funnily enough I find towing my 20ft trailer behind my 30ft camper to be a piece of cake. The overhang at the back of the camper effectively steers the trailer around tight bends and roundabouts. LHD is no problem at all, where and when would right hand drive be an advantage? As regards the law, well even they don't know. For instance to drive a camper over 7.5tonne you need a hgv licence but if you turn up in said vehicle to take your test you will be turned away and told its not suitable!!!??? Where's the sense in that?

Anyway, there's nothing like cruising to a meeting being able to have a drink or bite to eat whenever you want, then arriving at a circuit, making a decent meal before watching a bit of tv and then into a nice warm bed. Much more sociable too, kettles always on, always open to visitors I've done my time kipping in the back of a pickup truck, trying to cook a meal on a disposable barbie in the wind and rain, everyone huddled up in their own cars on rainy raceday. Pah
