Bahrain GP...

Work is starting now-ish, and Bahrain are expected to big for a GP 2004-time.
The circuit doesn't look great though...(source: grandprix.com)

If the right hand side of the circuit was a bit less wiggely, it would be v. much like the A1-Ring...

What IS the right portion of black thingy? Is it supposed to be part of the track? Did they get some bored 4 year-olds to design the circuit?!!

And who on earth actually sign the circuit off for building? It looks like a sin. Racing? Besides the 2 parallel straights...i doubt there is any room for overtaking...and still, i think it's neither spectacular, nor challenging, to drive/race.

I think it looks like Brand's Indy circuit with a wiggly bit.

I'm glad its so compact and convoluted. Its not as though they have wide open spaces to plan around in Bahrain.

It will be the first track to register track temps of 200 degrees f.

There should be plenty of sand for gravel traps.

It reminds me of Road America, but with some added twisties. Oh, and minus the hills...and trees. And it's shorter.

On second thought, it doesn't remind me of Road America at all.

I might just be spouting rubbish but I think the final sector looks like there could be a few overtaking opportunities.

You all KNOW my views on this so I'm not going to repeat myself again only to say I hope no F1 car ever drives on it.

< START OF WHINGE >

Who the hell designs these tracks? Who ever they are, they have NO idea how to design a race track. I mean, what is this thing?? Looks to me like they've just had a look at the A1-Ring, picked that up, dropped into the sandy deserts of Bahrain, and added horrible swiggly bit on the end that just makes the cars run high-downforce settings, which of course means no overtaking. I hate to be a cynic, but that track is just awful.

< END OF WHINGE >

The squiggly bits I don't mind...but what is the point of a tight hairpin-ish turn BEFORE the main straight? Is this to make absolute sure there is no overtaking at all?

For all it's been knocked, Indy at least has a great deal of speed going into the main straight, which produces overtaking....there could be some overtaking if the car didn't need to do a 180 before the straight.

That circuit is possibly the most ridiculous I have ever seen in my entire life. It's like Sepang - only WORSE.

The circuit cannot be compared to the A1-Ring - the Austrian circuit is great - it is simple, challenging, undulating and has fast and slow corners, plus it has a rhythm. This Bahrain nonsense looks, as Gt_R said, like a 4-year-old's scribblings.

Idiots!

If it wasn't so all over the place in the first third, it would look alarmingly like Barcelona. Bring on another boring race

There is only 1 difficult turn and that is the first corner. thats all.

I could drive here a fast time on that circuit.
Somebody said it it looks like a 4 year old painting weel he is correct. I think the guy who draw this was VERY dronk.

The track was designed by Tilke Engineering.

It is 3.25miles in length.

Direction of racing is clockwise.

BAHRAIN GP

Why should Bahrain host a Grand Prix? Its never had any good sport or anything to do with motorracing. They should try a place like Switzerland or Colombia for Sauber or Montoya.

Racing has been illegal in Switzerland since Levegh's Le Mans accident in 1955.

F1 in Columbia? Think about it. The entire paddock would be ripe for kidnapping.

How about Zandvoort instead? Its a great track, a great history and close to German and English fans.
