It demonstrates the grip when you go offline in the wet. I have a whole series from that incident, he finished off near the wall. But he began sliding then got grip. Hence the lifting.

What’s all this nonsense about No Name? My memory (which I admit has become an incorrigible liar of late) tells me that St Mary’s was always recognised to be neither a right hander nor a left hander but to be an S bend. The correct usage is to refer to either the first part of St Marys or to the second part of St Mary’s. The benevolent spirits of the heroes which still whisper in the trees there would think No Name a betrayal of the Goodwood history so carefully preserved. Let the Johnny come lately modern commentators study their history. There is no corner in need of a name at Goodwood. No Name indeed!

So the left hand kink after Fordwater is the first part of St Mary's? I must confess not having attended in period I always thought that the right/left flick flack is/was St Mary's and the kink on the approach was un unnamed part of the circuit hence "No Name". Not that it really matters but certainly midway between the kink and the flick/flack is probably one of the most spectacular viewing points.

The FIA will have the answer, just call Turn4 like every other circuit.

They say it is easier for the drivers but when you ask them their favourite cornes you will get an answer like Eau Rouge, Tarzan, Tabac or Becketts. Not turn 3, 5 or 7 wherever.
At least No name is better than turn X.

Wonderful weekend and I can't wait to return. So many highlights but special mention to -

- the staggeringly fast , noisy and utterly gorgeous Abarth Simca . I had perved over one of these in CAR magazine in about 1968 but had never seen one in the flesh

- the screaming , howling and utterly gorgeous Ferrari 250 SWB of Vincent Gaye

- the Cobra Dragon Snake - such evocative metal flake purple, and in such a contrast to the muted greens and greys of so much British stuff of the period .

- the sideways antics and surprising pace of dicing MGBs at No Name (if I can still so term it ?)

- Jake Hill in the Capri . That lad can drive .

- Watching GT 40s getting loose on the wet patch beyond Madgwick on Saturday afternoon .

And so much more. Simply marvellous .

There is only one left hander and I always thought it was St Marys. the right hand blip before is what gets called no name? Fordwater is the kink and dip beforehand.

"This year's Gerry Marshall Trophy was split into three parts. First on Saturday two heats, one for the bigger engined cars and one for the smaller. Then, on Sunday, a final for the top 15 finishers in each heat. The grid was formed by mixing the finishing orders of the two heats, which immediately created the little v large battle we always love at Goodwood.
But through the whole of the final, despite Jack Tetley's efforts in his mighty Cheverolet Camaro, there was only one battle to watch: The titanic tussle between BTCC title contender Jake Hill in Ric Wood's stunning Ford Capri, and Craig Davies, in his brutal Ford BOSS Mustang.
As Davies had started further down the pack he had to make his way through to catch Hill. Once he did, there began one of the best, tensest, and most absorbing battles in Gerry Marshall Trophy, and perhaps Goodwood, history.
This full race will be live on YouTube for six weeks after which it will join Goodwood’s incredible 30-year motorsport archive available exclusively to GRRC Members and Fellows."

Andre Lotterer put Goodwood 'favourite' Gordon Shedden well in the shade in the Gurney race!

The MM was a bit of a busmans holiday for current touring car drivers and they got plenty of coverage. But there were some serious grade drivers present last weekend!

I caught this on youtube last night. My favourite type (and era) of racing and named after my first hero of saloon car racing (and responsible for my choice of user name). I was pleased to see that they still managed good, close racing without the bumping & barging that has happened in the past and I was pleased to see how some of the youngsters performed (Jake Hill was brilliant!), and really glad to see that a lot of the original drivers had not lost their ability to handle a car & race.

Beautiful. And yes he does, I had a chat with him at the FoS a few years ago as we were paddock neighbours . . . we both have 1700cc pre xflow MK1 Cortina road cars, just for fun.

Lots of.posters talking about Jake Hill. I can confirm that not only is he a talented peddler he is also a very nice bloke. One of the good things to come out of the professionalisation of historic racing, is getting to meet some really nice people.

Glad you enjoyed our battle. The MGBs really do have excellent cornering ability. Just let down by a lack of power.

Amazing how many people have come up to us after the weekend to name the MGBs one of their event highlights. Quite remarkable given they were some of the most 'boring' cars at the event (at least in Goodwood's eyes).

PS: I was in the pale blue MGB (probably the least sideways of the trio).
