cds_uk should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
What's in a name?

Spyker MF1, i do hope they drop the MF1 part of the name when the new car comes out, is there any reason why they shouldn`t?

Yes- A team is allowed to completely change their name every five years. Seeing as 2006 was MF1s first year, it will be Spyker MF1 until at least 2010, possibly 2011...

Unless the other teams agree to a name change.

Which they will - provided Spyker doesn't object to Red Bull/Toro Rosso and Honda/Aguri having similar cars.

Money will likely change hands.

Most name changes are just waved through. Without cynicism too.

I don't see the point in keeping the MF1 so I think they'll get it change no problems. Sounds a bit silly Spyker MF1 anyone!

If they'd have got the Merc engines,it could have been Spyker M F1.

As they are still using a car left over from Midland days it is unsuprising that it still retains the MF1 name. Similar things have happened in the past. With Red Bull?

If the cars are no good next year it could always mean Spyker Merda F1...

Well if they can only change it every 5 years, how did the name become Spyker MF1?

It was Jordan in 2005
And Midland/MF1 at the start of 2006
So going by what your saying thats already 1 change, so how did it become Spyker MF1 at the end of 2006.

Last year it was BMW Williams F1
This year its just Williams F1
Next year im assuming it will be Toyota Williams F1

Teams seem to change their names all the time without any dramas.

I guess when a team changes engine supplier they can change the "associated" engine name.

Teams are allowed to change the title sponsor and engine supplier part of the name - the car was an MF1 so it became a Spyker MF1. No problems there as Spyker took over the title sponsorship part of the team name (that had previously been vacant). Not sure if it's every 5 years for a team name change or just not during a season?

Wasn't it because BMW was the title sponsor, not because they had shares.

I believe so; BMW wanted maximum publicity from their involvement so took over the title sponsorship of the team, which also allowed them to dictate the colour scheme of the car.

classic offseason stuff but of course Spyker is completely unlikely to keep any M in their name. the whole concept was to get rid of the Russian guy and his M for a couple of Ms

Any truth in the rumour that Williams will run under a Lexus badged powerplant?
