Triple J Motorsport should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Champion of Brands

Pleased to see James Beckett is trying to get the COB restarted for FF1600 cars. (Yesterdays Autospout)

I know quite a few drivers who would support this.

With James behind it and MSVR the organising club should grow to the same level of support Combe has, with London on Brands door step possibly bigger.

Can someone please PM me James email address I only have his BRDC one.

Speaking from a spectators point of view.... if it happens, and if it is about one-tenth as good as it was in its hey-dey, it will be stunning!

Spoke to Chris Hall recently. He is definately keen. John Oxborrow probably has an Ox Mk something he can enter. Trevor Stiles still ventures down to Brands for the festival as does Rick Shortle. We then just need Karl Jones, Will Arif, Doug Wood & maybe Andy Stapley & a few others we could have a proper class of 80-85 reunion, I'd even make a comeback myself if I wasn't spending all my spare cash on my lads racing.

It would be great to see some of the old names back out again

Rick Shortle (and others) depart the 85 Festival!

But does he have the interest to prepare one?? I only really got into watching CoB from `88 onwards, but I tend to recall most of Trevor`s success coming from preparation of cars.

Er.. do you mean "OX"??

On the subject of OXs,... did one evovle to another, or were separate chassis made?? It`s just the latest single seater reminds me of OX-2 (? - the white one) which I remember meeting oblivion in a multiple roll at Druids with John Hayden.

I doubt Trevor has no interest in working on cars last time i saw him was at Brands 06? hindering john Ox with his car then i bought his trailer from him- that is when he said he would not race again
Ox ( zed and ex are next to each other on kepyboard!!)
John Ox has built 7 or 8 Ox cars some did roll into another car some are 1 offs Pete has Ox models 3 or 4

Ah, thats interesting. Being self-built cars I would have thought Oxborrow would have wanted to keep them. One of those (OX-4?) must`ve been the red one with the huge nose on it I think. Very unique looking car that one.

I saw Trevor on the banking at Paddock watching last years Festival Final with one of his old mehcanics I believe.

I had visions of a McLaren-style line-up of all the old OXs in his garage!!!!

Nevermind.

Still, if some exist in PAs hands it would be very nice to see one on the track again. I never really got very fond of the little red one he used recently, up until the new white 2 litre single seater. Didn`t seem to be as bold and striking as some of the designs he came out with in the earlier years.

I am very intrigued by the possibility of a CoB returning. Given what I hear about 1600 Kent parts becoming more and more expensive, and MSVs un-successful attempt at a re-incarnation a few years back I do wonder where the interest will come from to make it work. I`m sure if it got up-and-running it would grow and could really be a place for the youngsters to head to as well as the club racing types (ie. essentially what it was back in the day), but I worry about getting that initial interest to keep it afloat whilst news spreads and grids swell. I sure hope this Beckett man can do it though, cos it really could be mega!!

I heard that around 50 people had made enquiries about CoB following the publicity a few weeks ago, so no doubt the interest is there.

If there really are any potential Champion of Brands racers out there, there is a Double Header race on Sunday 16th August on Brands Indy Circuit for 1600 Kents.
Why not enter and show if there really is a glut of FF1600s' in the Brands catchment area just waiting for somewhere to play.

Any interested parties can enter the BRSCC Midlands South / Webcon UK Club Formula Ford races. To make life easier, you won't need to pay a championship registration fee for a one off.

Entry Form available from www.brscc.co.uk Click on Club Formula Ford on the Home Page.

It's not quite as simple as that! I for one would need to regain my licence, buy racewear, practice etc before entering races. Looking towards 2010, not August 16th

Brands 16th AUG 09 TV coverage FF1600

The BRSCC has arranged for a series of races to be televised and shown on TV later in the year. The FF1600 races from Brands this weekend are included. (approx 12 minutes of footage per race) The quality of the production crew and the voice over for the commentary has been carefully chosen and should be top quality.

There are a few spaces left for this weekend. Apply to the BRSCC. (one off races are available to non registered competitors.)

The weekend will include garages, TV coverage and a chance to run at BH before the festival.

PRESS RELEASE about the Festival will be next week.

So if there are 50 + C o B comeptitors out there, hurry!

PRESS RELEASE – For immediate release, 12th August 2009

BECKETT JOINS THE BRSCC FESTIVAL TEAM

The BRSCC has confirmed that former BRDC assistant secretary James Beckett has joined the Club’s admin team for the 2009 Formula Ford Festival, which will take place at Brands Hatch on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th October.

Beckett takes on the remit of promoting the 1600cc category of the Club’s ‘blue riband’ event, the 38th in the Festival’s rich history. BRSCC Competitions Director Drew Furlong said, “We are delighted to have James on board for the Festival. He brings with him a wealth of Formula Ford experience and contacts, evidenced by the success of the Walter Hayes Trophy, which he instigated and developed.”

Commenting on his temporary role, James said, “I am very pleased to be asked by the BRSCC to work with them this year to develop and strengthen the Formula Ford Festival. The Festival has a great history - a remarkable pedigree, and I hope that competitors will once again view the event as an important part of their end-of-season trophy season."

"I have said many times that Formula Ford is my passion. My early childhood memories are of watching Formula Ford 1600 at Silverstone and that naturally led to trips to Brands to camp out at the top of Paddock Hill Bend for the weekend to watch the Festival."

Beckett has enjoyed many Festivals - and rates Vincenzo Sospiri's victory in the 1988 final as one of the most exciting races he has ever seen.

Entry fees for all categories of Formula Ford have been held at the 2008 level as follows: Duratecs £400, Zetecs £295 and Kents £295.

Entry forms and Supplementary Regulations are available from the Festival section of the website www.brscc.co.uk/formula-ford-festival or via emailing entries@brscc.co.uk
