Now, if Ron could ditch Merc and get Toyota engines, we''d be looking at a very competitive prospect!!

I know.
Maybe Toyota should have two works teams - the factory and another supply. Like Renault used to do with Williams and Benetton! |

Hehh...What if Mclaren turns to Ferrari engines?!??!!
Chaos! But frankly, it's silly isn't it? Sauber is having the SAME engine as Ferrari yet struggle to even make it top 10. Mclaren had a **** engine and still isn't worse than Sauber. Unfortunately, ditching an engine supplier is now a harder task for Mclaren due to their relationship of Mercedes actually having a part of Mclaren and stuff... |

Forgive me for not reading four pages before adding this little pearl of wisdom...
Get the history books out chaps - have McLaren ever been so far off the pace for long? Even if they write this year off altogether, I'd take a sneaky side bet that they'll be bang on the money in 2005. Last edited by garcon; 3 Apr 2004 at 03:26. |

Freud, Sauber is a customer for the current spec Ferrari engine/transmission. In 2003 they used the previous season's package. This was noted during their launch in December '03.
So yes, it is notable that even with the current spec engine they are still off the pace. |

Hi freud.
Errm..in 2004 Australia and Sepang, Sauber used the same engine as Ferrari - primarily due to the new engine regulations. Hence for once Ferrari and Sauber has the same engine (as clarified by Peter Sauber himself), and that they also used Ferrari's 2003 gearbox. In fact, in recent previous years, Sauber used evolution old engines instead of full-year old engines from Ferrari. I understand an engine doesn't make a loser car win. Look at Toyota..they had one of the best engine but struggles in midfield. It's the package..and all i'm saying is that in comparison, Sauber had the better engine than Mercedes currently have, yet due to reasons outside the engine (the car itself), cannot capitalise and beat Mclaren. So it isn't too bad for Mclaren. As regarding point 2, I did not say Mclaren had any intentions of booting Mercedes out. To put it bluntly, Mercedes part-own Mclaren. I'm just joining in with MrV/K-B's discussion of a fictional situation whereby what if Mclaren doesn't want Mercedes engines. They cant....and i agree with you that DO NOT belittle Mercedes for they have the depth and resources to make it stick. Ilmor needs to buck up. |
