Its a funny one magny cours. It comes across really dull on tv, but I was fortunate enough to to a couple of grand prixs there in the '90's,and I rated it pretty highly for spectating. If you went on the bank opposite the straight and the Adelaide hairpin you could see a good three stretches of track as the cars cross crossed around, and a walk up the bank and you could see the drivers giving it some in the estriol curve and Barrelling down the straight at flat chat. I really enjoyed it but....
....I wouldn't want it back there.you guys are right you would not have had the first clue a grand prix was on till you got to the gates of the track, and am not all that convinced no refuelling would make it much better I was there for the 1993 race and there was nit much passing at all.I'd like it to go to ricard because of the straights-f1 is missing far too much the old hockenheim/Cleveland type circuits that create good races. But I really hope they pull it off anywhere, I'm not the biggest fan of France but my goodness it is INSANE they don't have a race! |

Trouble I have with Magny Cours is that it doesnt go anywhere. Its all intertwined and weaves back on itself on several occasions. I like tracks that go somewhere, then somewhere else, then back around to the start, like old Hockenheim, Spa, Lemans, Monza, Silverstone.

Sodemo, there have been a number of quite good circuits that fold back on themselves to an extent. Some of the principles examples I think of are Sebring, Riverside (now defunct, unfortunately), Interlagos (especially the original layout), and Road America. So, I think the bigger issue with any circuit is just that it is laid out well. Unfortunately, a lot of the new "country club" type facilities do the space efficiency thing badly, in the sense that there really is nowhere that more powerful vehicles can stretch their legs at many of those tracks.

Well if it secures Spa's future and gets us a race in France then I'd be all for.
Is it surprising to anyone that France wants Paul Ricard as its venue? |

Well I would be happy for France(and Paul Ricard) to get a F1 race back. Not to sure about alternating with Spa though. Spa should always be on the calendar, in my opinion.
Paul Ricard is a pretty decent circuit. You can have good racing there. Plus now that it has been redeveloped, it now has better run offs. Hopefully, this will persuade the health and safety police that it is okay. It does seem strange that France doesn't have a F1 race. Maybe, not having a French driver doesn't help matters. Plus, with the Professor gone maybe interest has waned a bit in France, regarding F1. |

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a Mr Grosjean having a seat in a Renault (?) next season, if this comes to be a reality.

Would be great to see Ricard back on the calendar but I'd rather that both these great circuits were run every year and that we alternated between (say) Abu Dhabi and Valencia. |

Would a street race in Paris be impossible? Think of a night race there...

Paul Ricard or Dijon-Prenois would make much better candidates for F1. I think the current layout of Paul Ricard could work(yes - it has chicanes, but hey it would still provide a good race there). |

Well, I don't especially mind either one of the tighter versions of the opening two corners at Paul Ricard, but there's no point to the full circuit, in my mind, unless you use the full, uninterrupted Mistral Straight, end of story.

i agree, and i've been there for both the f1 race and others in various unpleasant weather conditions. it's a good circuit to see a race as a spectator and the campsites are fairly entertaining. unfortunately the local area can't sustain the number of 4* hotels the f1 circus demands as a matter of course in the same way motorland can't.

If I were in charge, I would only see three possible options for a French GP...
1) Upgrade Dijon to current F1 standards - leave the circuit layout unchanged! 2) Concoct some sort of street circuit around Paris. OR 3) Head to Le Mans - forget the Bugatti circuit and work with the ACO on doing something like this: http://tinypic.com/r/ff6yyo/7 It would retain much more character of the true Le Mans (incorporating the entire first section), and would really only require a racing road (a service road already exists for a large portion of it) from halfway up the first part of the Mulsanne, down to the chicane on the Bugatti circuit behind the pits... The infrastructure is already there and, let's face it, Le Mans is the most famous circuit in France. Though I prefer the Dijon option myself... |

Great news if it happens, after all they invented GP racing. Another race in Europe wouldn't go amiss. They can get rid of one of those races no one goes to. |
