In an attempt to slightly cheer up a few people of a "certain age", given the less than happy updates here in the past couple of days (well, apart from Iain's new Phone Box - soon to be full time home? ) I thought some might enjoy this.

Nice link, Max, thanks! For your eyes only: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNNQjwMC8jE
Other title possibly better than Titanic, "When Guy Verrier, Citroën Compétition, thought a BX could match Audi or Lancia performances"… I do recall James Bond driving a 2 CV but not a… BX! At 9' you'll see how a 4TC becomes a 4WS by inadvertance… |

That’s great news. Always good to see historic F. Atlantic driven in anger on circuit.

I too enjoyed the reading of the article. I got the english version. Just out of my curiosity, who made the translation?

Formula Atlantic
And it is not only young guys like Iain who likes Formula Atlantic. I recently bought one as well, although the chances are slim that I will bring it over to the UK in these post-Brexit Days. Will be content with racing it here in Sweden (once I figure out where the water in the oil is coming from...)

Vos désirs sont des ordres, Madame!
Ha yes, can you speak a little bit LOUDER, please…
Bonjour, Madame Claire Smith. L'histoire des coques neuves pour Escort Mk2 a dû commencer il y a dix ans, en Irlande je crois. Now its for real but as you'll notice the prices have been "slightly" increasing. More expensive than a body shell from BMH. Would you like to have a look to the catalogue? Yes? Theeeere you are: https://www.motorsport-tools.com/for...ody-shell.html Mon plaisir, Madame. |

The Renault 5's from the mid '70s were similar in "stance" and attitude. Probably about the same power I would guess, for the celebrity race versions. |

Grant, please, the egg thingy is about 2CV, not Dyane. Many froggy cars had an umbrella shaft going through the dash instead of a normal gear knob. They are so slow that you never know what the weather will be on arrival…

They probably didn’t have enough room for eggs. But yeah the 2cvs and the R5s did have quite an amount of lean angle when cornering. Certainly made for a fun spectacle when racing!

I've got some wonderful photos somewhere of a nose-to-tail line of Renault 5's lurching through Russell at Snetterton, all at slightly different angles, in the very early days of R5 racing.
The trick in those days was to get close enough to the car in front to pop the rear hatch open, thus giving your competitor a very effective air brake! |

I remember in the late 70's shopping for a sensible car to replace my ex-Police Consul GT (with uprated 3.1 V6 courtesy of Specialised Engines of Grays)....which was a bit thirsty. Amongst the cars I test drove was a R5 (GTL IIRC). I also had a look at the new Fiat which was so new it was still badged "Ritmo", although to become the Strada, of course. Awfully glad I chose an Alfasud

For a short time I had the use of a Renault 6 as a "company" car so I became quite used to the joys of the umbrella shaft gear change concept and quite adept at the art of a "speed refit" when the linkage fell apart. That was a frequent event for all of its drivers but if one was tempted to hustle the thing along a bit it could be a bit more of a regular requirement - often several times a week. Sometimes more than once a day. Other than that it was actually almost quite an interesting method for travelling from one point to another. |
