I believe this to be true, anything can be done nowadays. Are you aware about other customers reporting/ complaining about those proceedings? Worth to make some search on the net imo. A pure shame.

I bought an expensive bit of kit from Currys PCworld and as I was walking to my car in the car park I got a phone call from my CC provider to ask if I had made a purchase in the last 5 minutes as it was unusual to buy from them on my company card. Obviously that worked well in this instance so "big brother" can work for us sometimes.

For almost all the purchases made through internet we receive a code via our smartphone to secure the expense. A good thing imo. Many things are presented as working for us now but many things work for them too. Go figure as they say!

A bit of searching finds this from 7 years ago .
But my phone was not on WI-FI , so it was probably just the phone signal that was picked up .

Have spoken to a person who works for HUGHES . They were not aware , [ or not allowed to be aware ,] of any in store phone tracking .
But have said that they will ask & let me know .

Possibly the whole idea comes under GDPR , so might be borderline legal .

I would have thought that any sort of data gathering without your explicit consent would have been totally illegal due to GDPR.

That was my original thought , which is why I bought the matter up .

But there is probably some way that they consider what they are doing is just legal , but have obviously not told many people about it so that not too much of it comes to public notice .

Not quite. As it has been explained to me - capture is not the issue, it is the processing to which GDPR applies.
Personal data can only be processed if certain criteria are met.

In the example that Tel911S has presented, as far as I can tell the only information that was processed was the phone number, in relation to a location.
A phone number is not personal data - because it does not give a means to identify an individual - so GDPR would not apply in this case anyway.

I have recognized that sometimes my smartphone automatically turns on either the wifi or bluetooth mode. And the Waze ap records almost everything from your driving.

They can do many things… The new anti-covid ap could locate you and say if you had been in contact with an infected person… When you install a new ap, the first question asked is "do you allow the ap to reach your phone book, pictures, data etc…?" Some wont work if you refuse. Many dowloaded games work the same.

You can be sure they will do their best to ruin 14 July!! It's in their nature...

Mandatory vaccinations would be somewhat ironic given Macron worked so hard to put people off having them - he really isn't very bright. I'm glad I've beaten the rush & already had mine; we have a pharmacist in the family who says she won't have one. Not sure if she knows something we don't!!

Given the costs involved, the 14 July ceremony does not seem appropriate imo. Its a pity because I love to watch what they call drones here… Pathetic.
