Also it seems the Rebellions were releasing a bit of oil today according to drivers of cars behind them. |

Wow! Just 2 liters?
For now it looks like Rebellion made the right choice in switching to the AER. |

Well the guys from Rebellion are "obviously" ten-tenths regulars are read my posts slamming the 3.4 Toyota V8 all last season, the 3.4 V8 was a complete POS ;-)........to have set those times in the first night qualifying yesterday evening and to be nibbling at the back of Toyota, I can imagine both AER and Rebellion are now brimming with confidence.....especially AER, as the Kolles car is still badly off the pace, I can imagine Kolles are also a bit down in the dumps as a result......the re-worked Rebellion is now a seriously fast piece of kit......best of luck Rebellion, they now have all the ingredients to make it work and pull off a good result, good drivers + good chassis + good engine

Still 10 seconds away from the front, though. Last year it was 'only' 8.

If the factories hadn't moved on this year Rebellion would only be ~5 seconds behind (compared to 2014 quali times).

this year to last year is not an apples-to-apples comparison, both the car weights and fuel flow limits are quite different from 2014 to 2015.....its impossible to draw direct comparisons.....especially with the manufacturers changing MJ ratings and aero updates......its a minefield of comparisons.......the most interesting apples-to-apples comparison is the Kolles to the Rebellion.......now they have revealed its only 2 Litres in capacity, I'm quite interested to see the AER's distance between fuel stops.....assuming its got about 2 bar of boost this will be equivalent to about 4 litres in NA format.....but AER are not stupid....it will be interesting to compare to the Nissan with a similar engine

I hadn't noticed this before. It's absent from the race programme too.
Thanks RLM for the facts! |

The AER power was very promising. Other than that the overall pace wasn't too bad, without the on track and reliability issues they weren't too far off from the slow Toyotas.
Anyway. Once again has to laugh at "we only have one LMP1 class now" ACO line (also RLM and other media still seems to think that's how it is) with current privateer P1/P1-P/P1-NH sporting regulations not only being 99,9% identical to LMP1-L last year, but also seeing this Where the size of these trophies - which Rebellion "won" by crawling around against crawling Kolles - still look as big as they do for actual class winners, and bigger than 2nd & 3rd finishers in P2/GTE |

They were still about 5-6 seconds off Toyota on their best. But a good bit faster than last year! If anyone wants some more tech details about the car and engine, this is a really good write-up! There are a few errors but its still pretty informative.

They're far too secretive with it. The Radio Le Mans guys must have used pliers and a crowbar to squeeze that 2.4 liter figure from the AER people, because RLM reported the 2.4 liter figure a few times over race week.

I guess that only jack bauer will be persuasive enough to make them reveal figures like redline or max torque output...

In all honsety I'm still struggling to get my brain around the figure of 2.4L, it just seems too small, it dosent make sense........it would not surprise me at a later date that this turns out to be a case of smoke and mirrors and a complete lie and bum-steer ........3 to 4 litres is a far better place to be for a privateer turbo engine without KERS......the low rpm is a key and major factor in getting the fuel milage.

AER have made no secret of the fact that they are unwilling to reveal the cubic capacity of the engine, they have (indirectly) declared their unwillingness publicly from the outset (link to DSC article from March 2014). Trackside, it didn't sound like a small capacity engine, but if Trussers has had 2.4l confirmed and is prepared to state that over the airwaves, that's good enough for me.

The AER web site says
"The technology and the architecture of the 90 degree V-6 shares the DNA of the P90 four-cylinder GDI engine " also "It features a new block, a new sump, new cylinder heads, and all the covers are new. It is a new engine that has all the benefits of having a number of engines in the AER stable to contribute race proven componentry. Many of the internals are carried forward from the reliable and championship winning four-cylinder turbo: the design of the gear train, and the oil scavenge system along with the GDI cylinder heads and the GDI system which have been proven on past engines. Using race-proven components provide built in reliability and durability." I took that to mean it is using the same pistons and that the cylinder size would also be 500cc so the v6 would be 3L. |
