Help with history of a European Chevrolet Camaro 1967-68?
I have a 1967 Camaro that was sent to Germany in 1967 for Racing. I have the title, and the ID numbers, but I do not have the actual history of the car. I have tried to document any modifications made to the cas as I am doing a restoration, so as to gather any information on the cars past. I am posting the pictures I have taken, please take a moment to look over them and add information you may have. You can also email any questions to my listed address.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...Purchased5.jpg You can see from the underside where it had been modified for the side exit exhaust in front of the rear wheels, and rear suspension modifications. Also the brake calipers had been modified to accept the larger corvette brake pads. The top holder was milled off, and the opening widened. |

Hi there, I hope our members can help you out.
As a touring car racing fan this is quite an interesting subject for a thread in our section. I'm going to stick this at the top of the page for a while to help generate interest. |

I have found one that may be a close match. The engine as shipped was a 327,
May 24 1970 there was one 67 Camaro with the 5300cc V8. It was driven by Robert Eberhardt. Division 3 VSA München (D). It was car number 70 Grid: 33rd http://www.racingsportscars.com/etcc...-05-24-070.jpg Most others I have found had 5.0, 5.7, or the 7.0 engines. |

The 5.3 is a good revvy unit I stuck one in once as an interim and was amazed how nice it was to drive, also the 302 (5 litre) 1st generation Camaro Z/28's were a very high revving short stroke unit and in that configuration for the 5.0 limit in TransAm racing I believe. Not to be confused with the 305 which although similar displacement is a long stroke small bore and not so tunable and really configured for more economic road car motoring. BTW didnt that Wiggins Teape car run as a 5.0 litre in British Touring cars? That was brown with a vinyl roof I think, I have some stuff on it at home.

Twin camel hump heads which is good, but dont push it hard round corners with that sump as it will surely fail (spoken by a man with bitter experience!).

Hallo.
It`s an interesting car you have there. Did you get the " STP no.8 " picture with the car ? The most importent thing here is if your car and the " STP no.8 " car is the same. Do you have any info of that ? / Adam |

I think the posts were not related Adam so it looks like its not that car. That car has never been raced in anger with that standard sump it wouldnt last two laps on sticky tyres!

There are a possibility the sump/engine has been replaced during this
40 years I`d really would like to know why and how that photo ended up here. Is it copied from internet or is it in the hands of the owner of the car ? If so, what`s the story behind that ? |

The oil pan I put on to drive on the street. When I bought the car the engine was in boxes and piled on a table. The picture I have of the car it had the number 70, and it did not finish. I see a lot of engine failures in 68-70, and it may be from a bad oil design. The pan I am using is the GM Performance parts pan for the small block. This was to give me a greater volume, to prevent starvation or cavitation at high RPM's for long periods of time. While I lived in Germany I saw many American cars eat engines by pumping their 4.5 quarts of oil out of the pan, starving the bearings.
