Sebring 1965

Does anyone know the entry list or any details ?

I've found this

http://www.lotus-cortina.com/photos/woods/woods.htm

I'm just curious as I've been 'persuaded' to do the Sebring Salute on Easter Saturday at Brands in the GT, and although I'll be trailing at the back compared to many cars, I know GT's and Loti Cortinas did race there. What I don't know is who entered and raced them

I imagine this relates to the 3 hour race for touring cars that took place on the short Sebring circuit on 26 March, 1965, the day before the 12 hour event for prototypes and GTs. The Touring car race was won by Jim Clark 2 laps clear of Jack Sears who was second and they were both in Lotus Cortinas entered I'm assuming by the works Lotus team.

(Zef, if it's the history you're after, you might want to move this to the Motorsport History forum)

I can add a few more details - there were thirty starters and Clark completed 119 laps at 139.822km/h. Sears was second, two laps behind. Third was Dieter Glemser in a BMW 1800TISA. There were works entries from Alfa Romeo as well as Lotus and BMW. Only other finisher I know of was Dave Tallakson in a Mustang, who completed 112 laps.

Anuauto has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I'm sure I've seen film of Lotus Cortinas in the same race as Cobras etc at Sebring.

"I'm sure I've seen film of Lotus Cortinas in the same race as Cobras etc at Sebring"

I think that would be 1964. Jim Clark / Ray Parsons came 21st/2nd in class. No Lotus Cortinas in the 65 12 hours - source "Time & 2 Seats"

"I'd better include this piece of information on my site then"

According to Autosport the 65 3 hours results
1 Clark 119 laps
2 Sears 117
3 Glemser 117 (1st class)
4 Tallakson Mustang 112 (1st class)
5 George Oulton Mini Cooper S 110 (1st class)
6 Teodaro Zeccoli Alfa Giulia Ti 107
7 Hopkirk/Warwick Banks Mini Cooper S 104 (2nd class)
Other class winners
Brown/Walsh Mini Cooper
Richard Brown Mini
Edward Diehl Saab 2. John Norwood Renault
Don Eischstaldt Chevrolet Corvair
Carlis Tai Mini
Harry Fry VW

Thanks Richard!
Am I correct when I conclude:
1000 cc class: 1 Richard Brown/Dick Walsh
850 class: 1 Ed Diehl/Saab, 2 John Norwood
and the last 3 entries are not class winners but retirements or also-ran's?

Sebring '65

I can likely add to this once I'm at home. I was a press reporter for the race. I believe I have the official entry and/or the results. Jim Clark ran away and hid at this race! It seems to me Pedro Rodriquez drove a Bimmer in the sedan, oops saloon, race but I'd have to see my results. I was at the race for three consecutive years and it all kind of runs together in the memory bank! If I recall correctly, Chaparrals won the 12 Hours. Let me know what you might be looking for and I'll see if I can help.
Cheers.

According to the Autosport report they are ALL class winners, but I could not figure out the classes either!!

Perhaps Ol' Motorhead can help - a scan of the results sheets perhaps ????

I'm just curious to know that the Cortina GT ran at Sebring as I'm competing ( in the loosest possible sense of the word!) in the Top Hat Sebring Salute at Brands Hatch on 15th April.

Glad to help but it will be a week or so before I can get at my files
I need to reduce the sheets as they are on oversized paper. Alternately I could scan them in four parts and you could paste them back as one. Let me know if you're still interested.
Cheers.

the PDF file is an article about Bob O, I read sometime ago, it would appear the Willment team raced cobras and sports cars at Sebring, but I can't find any record of Cortina GT's . . .still looking though !

I did have some email correspondence with Bob when I was building my car, before he died, he was most helpful.
