Australian Bureau of Statistics research states motorsport is Australia's third most attended sport and on an equal playing field to rugby league. Around 1.5 million fans are expected to attend events this year, 12 million more will watch on television in Australia while the races are broadcast to 130 countries.

The Bathurst Super Cheap Auto 1000 in 2008 attracted over 5.6 million viewers on Channel Seven's coverage from the Friday - Sunday. In 2009, the event will be held from 9-11 October.

Plenty of people in Canberra make TV info-mercials, agencies, parties, lobbyists politicians and the government itself, for mixed political and public information purposes, as well as the occasion address from Kev's desk, not forgetting state level and council/shire level for that matter as well.

I imagine they would like to know if those TV spots are watched.
