Points well made Doc...and yes, escape route is good (although this one is a long way from the blacktop and there is a big patch of kitty litter between the point and the track anyway) however, in a land of milk and good beer, it should be done better as the Woolen One hinted

PS...the whole reason I started this thread was to see how the other half live...I haven't exactly been inundated with pictures from afar....please, post a snap of an Irish Flag point...I'd love ta see it..

I'll find some British ones, then, I think I've got a few (usually with people in them - I'm not that sad!)

They had a flag holder screwed to the wall, perfect for keeping them close to hand for when you needed them.

Just occasionally, that's why I took the picture! Actually, one or two are pictures someone took of me, goodness knows why...

Turn Four - Eastern Creek NSW

Cars come over the rise and sometimes peel off to enter the back gate of the pits (just past the Flag Point)....well sited.

And that would be the point which had the yellow for the upside down Canadian A1GP car the other week at Eastern Creek.

Well....you need line of sight Doc...so if you have a natural feature as in this case, a hill with a bend on top of it and a bend behind it.....you need to keep LOS around this (errrggghh) obstacle. To answer your question...no....some of the flag points I have been on you practically need binoculars to see the other points.

[edit: the camera has forshortened the view a tad....I'd estimate about 500 yards (in the old money) to that point on top of the hill]

I actually "stole" the idea of the flagholder from a British Marshal, had his DIY thing change to something more solid and implemented it at every Zandvoort post in 1998, when the 23 new concrete posts were erected.

Dutchy...we also have some sort of Flag holders at some tracks....at Wakefield Park they had a good idea to use some plumbing poly pipe bolted horizontally, down low on the flag point....with a row of holes drilled on an angle (like a flute). Unfortunately, the holes fit skinny flag poles but not the current fat ones they provide....oh well

Eastern Creek - Flag 6

EC again, here we see the results of the world-wide concrete shortage once again. The concrete slabs might just as well not be there, they are a trip hazard as they sit. This coupled with the world-wide shortage of Comms headset cable means it can be quite difficult to do your job tethered two metres from a pole with a big trip hazard underfoot.

One good aspect of this point is the duck pond behind it...very restful..."whats that mate? Alcohol fire? wondered why you were dancing!! Step this way!!!"

Flag 10.5 - Pit Entry on the main straight...quite scary sometimes when cars run wide on the main straight and head for the armco.

Here is flag 10 (the preceding point)...helps to have eyes in the back of your head!!

Finish Line flag point...hmmmm...wonder who was getting the bad sportsmanship flag??

I'll take some pics this weekend at Winton (I like the turn 7 (Tank) and 8 (Cleveage) FP's and I'm sure PVDA will be out snapping as well.

The old turn 12 / Pit Entry before it was moved to the other side of the track.

The tyre marks on the belting were made at speed.

Anyway.....back on with the pix....

Sandown Park, Main Straight.

You can see the next flag point. The flaggies could not.

Someone put a big green box in the way.
