bigears should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
1988 BTCC teams and their owners

As I am reserching about the 1988 Birmingham Superprix epsecially with the BTCC taking part in the qualifying session before the race was cancelled later in the day because of time constraits caused by the F3000 race. I got an incomplete qualifying timesheet put together from the Motoring News article of the BTCC qualifying written by Gwyn Dolphin.

I got in touch with him as he is based in Australia now and he doesn't think he got the original timesheets or reports anymore. I decided to go through the entry list of the BTCC teams that took part in the qualifying session and see if I can contact the teams or owners. I could ask the drivers but usually they don't keep the timesheets themselves and it is down to the teams to collect the information themselves.

Team Toyota GB/MIL Motorsport - who is the owner and where they are based?

Terry Drury Racing - he died in 2017 and I got in touch with his son very recently and awaiting a response.

Eggenberger Motorsport - lost all of the documents in a basement flooding unfortunately and Rudi died in 2018.

Alan Docking Racing -

Roger Dowson Engineering -

Industrial Control Services Ltd. - is that an Andy Rouse entry for Robb Gravett?

Brooklyn Motorsport - were they based in Redditch near Birmingham?

Tom Walkinshaw Racing - they are based in Australia but who is the best person to ask?

Mike Newman - got a Facebook account but tricky to get in touch with.

Graham Goode Racing - Through Facebook and his website of his company in Leicester and no avail.

Asquith Motorsport - where can I find Lee Asquith?

CAM Shipping/Banyard Cars Ltd. - No info of the team at all.

Graham Hathway - got a Facebook account but tricky to get in touch with.

Andy Rouse Engineering - got in touch with Andy Rouse and he was very helpful but no info about the 1988 BTCC event though.

Trident Motorsport - driven by Nick May in his Maserati, that's all I know.

Prodrive - got in touch a few months ago and no luck.

Steve Morse Motorsport/Demon Tweeks - No information, only Roland Ratzenberger in his BMW M3.

Specialist Cars Aberdeen - Should I contact the car saleroom but I doubt they would keep their information?

Demon Tweeks Racing - got in touch with Alan Minshaw's son and nothing. Who is the team?

John Maguire Racing/David Sutton Motorsport - Not sure where to start

Chris Hodgetts Motor Sport - Last week Chris told me all of his paperwork were lost in a container fire years ago.

Tony Crudgington - Nothing of him since 1988.

TOM's GB - Are they a Japanese team now? Or they still got a base in the UK?

North Essex Motorsport - Got in touch with Barbara Cowell (now Babbage) and nothing from her.

AGK Motorsport - No information on Google.

I hope someone will be able to help me for more information of the teams and possibly a way to contact the owners. Thank you and happy new year.

A few thoughts, although I don't know how helpful they might be!

The Gravett/ICS Sierra was Pete Hall's car, run by Rouse- Hall's company ICS were a longtime Rouse sponsor. Gravett took over the drive when Hall stepped down mid-season

Mike Newman's Sierra was run by Graham Goode's outfit.

Laurence Bristow's CAM Shipping/Baynard car was another Rouse car

North Essex Motorsport was run by Julian May. Just a long shot, Patrick Watts was a regular North Essex driver, wonder if he's in touch with anyone who could steer you in the right direction

AGK Motorsport- was that Geoff Kimber-Smith's own crew? IIRC his Corolla was later entered under the 'Five Star Racing' name

I think Graham Hathalway’s team was last in the BTCC in 2007, when they ran under the Sibsport name, running an Integra for Simon Blanckley. I could be wrong though, but if correct, then they have only been 14 years out of the series, so you should hopefully track them down

IIRC MIL emerged out of the remnants of CHMS? It was Alex Moss and Dave Lampitt and they operated out of what is now Team Dynamics premises in Pershore.

Terry Drury Racing - he died in 2017 and I got in touch with his son very recently and awaiting a response.

Eggenberger Motorsport - lost all of the documents in a basement flooding unfortunately and Rudi died in 2018.

Alan Docking Racing -
There is a chap who used to post regularly in the Commodore Group A thread who used to work there. Alfie72. He might be a good source of help.

Roger Dowson Engineering -
Roger's son used to post in the Metro Turbo thread, I think?

Industrial Control Services Ltd. - is that an Andy Rouse entry for Robb Gravett?

Brooklyn Motorsport - were they based in Redditch near Birmingham?
Brooklyn was Redditch and Kidderminster run by the Hill Family. Tim Hill is still about and the business is now called 'Hill's Ford'

Tom Walkinshaw Racing - they are based in Australia but who is the best person to ask?
Ken Clarke might be a good start. Also Paul Davis, Eddie Hinckley and Allan Scott. Allan has occasionally posted in the TWR threads

Was this the Andrew Jeffrey car? Maguires prepped it IIRC

Demon Tweeks Racing - got in touch with Alan Minshaw's son and nothing. Who is the team?

John Maguire Racing/David Sutton Motorsport - Not sure where to start
Ken Clarke again might be helpful for a contact as he started out there before TWR. Also Jim Morris of Lifeline (John Morris's son) Fire might be able to put you in touch with someone from there.

Chris Hodgetts Motor Sport - Last week Chris told me all of his paperwork were lost in a container fire years ago.

Tony Crudgington - Nothing of him since 1988.
Last seen racing a Dolly Sprint in Classic Touring Cars a few years ago. Try the CSCC for contact details.

TOM's GB - Are they a Japanese team now? Or they still got a base in the UK?
This was run by Glen Waters (of Intersport F3) and John Wickham out of Thetford. Glen went back to New Zealand. The team may have morphed into Sprit Racing and then the Audi Sport UK entrant?

North Essex Motorsport - Got in touch with Barbara Cowell (now Babbage) and nothing from her.

AGK Motorsport - No information on Google.

I hope someone will be able to help me for more information of the teams and possibly a way to contact the owners. Thank you and happy new year.

I got in touch with a mechanic who worked in the Trident Motor Sport and he can’t recall a lot. He said that the team was run by a guy called Tony. He can’t recall his last name. Who is this Tony person?

It is Tony Gale who used to be an ex-engineer for Lola. I got some leads so I will chase that up.
