10tacle should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
BTCC/ WTCC official viewers count!?

Are there any official viewer statistics for BTCC and WTCC? How many spectators visit the races on the tracks in 2008?

The BTCC put a news item out the other day about TV viewers and spectators for 2008:

I don't know for BTCC but I think the formula for DTM and WTCC:
REAL FIGURES = OFFICIAL FIGURES / 2

BTCC rarely if ever issue detailed spectator figures. Since ticket sales are down to the individual circuits it's up to those circuits to issue figures if they want to. On occasions where BTCC press releases have included spectator number it's only because that's the figure the circuit has given them.

Part of the problem is how do you define the number of spectators - some count only ticket sales, some include all the team personnel and other pass holders, some include race day only, some count both days, etc etc.

DTM
REAL FIGURES = (OFFICIAL FIGURES - 50% FREE TICKETS) / 2

I think it is very hard to believe those figures. The total number of spectators is said to be 325k, witch makes for an average of 32,5k visitors per event. But the 'recordnumber' of visitors is only a littlebit higher, 35k at Oulton Park.

I guess the accuracy of the 325,000 figure depends on what has been counted. For instance, if it is total number of tickets then a spectator who attends on both Saturday and Sunday may get counted twice. Also, the figure depends on how circuits calculate attendance. If it is simply the number of passes issued then team personnel, drivers and officials could have been included within the figure.

The 35K at Outon was a record at Oulton not for the series in general. Silverstone, Donington and Brands usually attract far more spectators.

As I've said before a lot depends on what you are counting and how you are counting it. You could probably assume that all TOCA pass holders will be at every meeting but what about MSV season ticket holders. Other than a visual check of the pass there's no record of how many came through the gates for any particular meeting.
