Some dates for your 2006 diary...?
Next year, according to Autosport, the Formula 1 World championship will get underway at Bahrain on March 12th. How weird is that?
I must say, I will miss sitting up through the night, kept awake by sheer anticipation and excitment! Good news, however, is that we will end the season at Interlagos, in November. This was the case last season of course and I thought it was a marvellous end to the season. I dare say, Shanghai won't be the greatest season ending event later next month..... Other dates that look to be confirmed are Australia on April 2nd, USA on July 2nd and Canada on July 16th. |

Query : why is it weird ?
Comment : Silverstone think they have July 16 In fact : the likelihood is Canada will be back to back with Indy again - best guess June 25 Yawn : but it will all get messed up by some other big sporting event in June |

Montmeló is slated for May 14th and Indy says it's on July 2nd. Canada will either be a week before or after Indy.
The 2006 Football World Cup runs from June 9th to July 9th. That surely is influencing the calendar... |

Really disappointed Bahrain is Round 1. Loved the unique feeling of the championship starting in Melbourne at 3am in the morning.

It will be weird kicking off the season at bahrain because the place is a little, well, antiseptic.
Kicking off the season (or indeed ending it) in Australia has always been popular because of the atmosphere. They may lose at every sport under the sun, but Aussies know how to make a big event. |

It's definitely better to start the season at Bahrain on a Sunday instead of finishing the GP2 championship in Thursday/Friday...

The GP2 championship won't visit Bahrain at the same time as F1 though.

Next years Austrailian GP is being moved back so it doesnt clash with the commonwealth games being held in Melbourne. Presumably it will go back to its usual slot in 2007

GP's have clashed with World Cup before, ususally Canada - so what's all the fuss about!
However, i would like to see the season perhaps start a little earlier and end a little later - i.e, Late Feb, beg March that's the only way to keep the current number of races and spread it out isn't it. So the Interlagos November date would be good- Or have it at end of January like late 70's early 80's and then a ridiculous 6 week gap until the next round!! |

The Melbourne Aquatic Center (the home of the melbourne swimming events at the commonwealth games) is on the left of Turn 3.. (in 2001, JV would have ended up through its front door if not for the catch fencing above the concrete).
The South Melbourne Soccer Club is on the exit of Turn 4 (where soccer games are likely to be held). all the indoor sports such as Badminton, Volleyball and all that are to be held at the aquatic center as well ! |
