"Formula for Success" by Derick Alsop
...Imola 1994 - after the podium - "A sense of guilt hung over the entire paddock after the race, and Michael felt its weight more than most. He returned to the sanctuary of the team motorhome and wept. Di Spires, 'mum' to the Bennetton crew, recalls:'He cried his eyes out. He said it was his fault because he pushed Ayrton too hard, which it wasnt of course. But he was heartbroken and we tried to comfort him. We were all so upset, though. It was awful." Press Conference - Monza'2000 "Q. Was your emotional response anything to do with Senna? MS: I think at certain moments not all questions you care [to put] or which you would like to be answered will be answered. I don't like to go into the detail of this question." ...whats going on in this man's mind? Crowned WDC 2000, I wonder if he'll continue in 2001...? |

I honestly dont think we will find out until a couple of years after he retires, once he has left the F1 world.

Is it not probable that the man is simply revealing his emotion? Whether out of a sense of guilt or historical resonance or some combination of factors, he is deeply moved by his association with Senna.
I think thats what set him off! Thinking he is now equal to his idol!!! A gratuitous and nasty comment, if I've ever read one. |

Did anyone notice the delayed arrival of the drivers to the podium?...they probably were informed about the death, and altho Michael seemed normal in his celebrations, he must have been wondering...
...then of course the Senna reminder and his own thoughts [later revealed]..."someone dies and someone wins" |

WE are only human
Tears come to us at very odd moments. Sometimes we think we can deal with the situation, and be really remote while others weep. Then suddenly, things seem to be different and we simply cannot control our emotions.

Yes, I think if they had been told before, there wouldn't have been any champagne spraying on the podium.
