I said as much in the tributes thread but even though Danny was most known for his Indy / CART, he drove/rode and won in just about anything you could.

morninggents should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Sad to hear this news. I first became aware of him during his drag racing years through reading Hot Rod magazine ( I think that was it's name) on the train to work in the mid 60s. I was quite surprised to see his name in Indy racing a few years later as this was the first time I'd heard of drag racers moving to single seaters. I didn't remember (or even known) that he done a few F1 races.

Danny Ongais' racing career and personal story had been among the most underserved in historical context. He ranks among the very few that crossed over hugely different disciples and did so competively.
A writer for Racer wrote an excellent article with pictures I haven't seen since but that was in the 1990's. A shame really
