Alonso released, tests McLaren
Alonso was on track at Jerez today for McLaren. Renault have released him at the last minute.

I say Renault decided that they should focus their attention on getting Kovalainen, and to a lesser extent Fisichella, suited to working with each other and getting them testing together so they can compare driving styles and come up with some strategies. Alonso hanging around was a dead weight IMO.

yea, plus some additional expenses:

-a plain white helmet
-a plain white racing overall
-removing each and EVERY ad and stickers from the car (appearently Flav didnt allowed even the car to have any of Mclaren's sponsor on it)

althogether, not a cheap day of testing for the team, but it worth it i bet

Its not as if Renault would actually have Alonso keep doing things around the factory etc. Not releasing drivers until this late is usually always about holding up the team theyre going to, than taking advantage of the last days of the contract for PR.

Ive heard quite often Ron wasnt going to release Kimi unless he could get Alonso early, so in effect Briattore had some bargaining power over both his major rivals. By releasing Alonso now, it barely gives Ferrari and Kimi to react.

Well there is no point in releasing Kimi now. his is the last testing day of the year, the next official testing will take place when he is on his Ferrari contract anyway. Unless they can organise it very quickly and get him on a plane to the track within the next couple of hours.

Great to see Alonso in the McLaren at last. I really cant wait to see how Alonso transforms the team and who knows maybe he can them to the same heights that the late great Senna took them.

I'd don't really care how they managed it, even just the still photos of Fernando in the MP421 and it's right back to can't wait, 2007 could be a very good year.
