Legard was a good bloke and his commentaries were pretty good. There, I've said it.

Actually, no they weren't. But then, maybe some of Murray's were a bit disastrous too. Then again, Ben Edwards commentating on something like Superleague makes F1 sound rather boring.

Always used to think his R5L commentry was quite good. But then, i was a 'yoof' so my memories are hazy....

It's good for a change. I probably wouldnt have sacked him, i'd have offered him another role within the coverage perhaps. Journalistically, he is sound.

JL was the worst commentator outside of Eurosport in all the sport that I've ever heard. I'd be dishonest if I said anything else/.

I would hope that Legard has a good future after this setback but outside of the box and away from a live mike.

True, but with Murray you always knew that there was this passion burning inside him for the sport and you could easily forgive his mistakes and get caught up in his fantastic commentry.

I am looking forward to seeing what David and Martin are like this year but Murray will alays be my favourite.

It actually comes down to personality rather than professionalism and mistake making.
Legarde, simply on the basis of what was on this forum, antagonised listeners/viewers so was not a good choice. Its nothing personal or professional, simply a fact that on balance, many enthsiasts seemed to hate or intensely dislike his commentary.

Murray Walker made lots of gaffes but many people loved and overlooked his gaffes as a part of the fabric of his commentating, maybe because of his enthusiasm for the sport. His personality wasn't overbearing or offensive and you always knew he just loved the sport by the way he went about the job.
