It's only been the CAMS CEO and the other people at CAMS trying to get Formula 4 off the ground that have been quoting that figure. In reality with a full season of testing (12 days) the season will cost between $80-140k.

I've been told by a number of people who should know, a front running FFord campaign costs the same as a bare bones F4 drive. If you don't bend it...

Enjoyed the F4 racing at QR last weekend.

Despite all the (unnecessary?) unsavoury politics it was great to see open wheelers back on the V8 Supercars race program.

As far as I am concerned the more open wheeler racing happening in Australia the better.

For years CAMS has been accused of doing little to help open wheeler racing in Australia.

So now when they do they attract bad publicity for the way they have gone about it. Perhaps deserved?

Today at Queensland Raceway some superb racing action was seen from Formula Ford and Formula 3.

Tomorrow (Sunday) you can watch more of the same on the Shannons Nationals website live streaming.

If you believe the stories, a bare bones F4 ride at the moment is free of charge...

- Paddle shift is so touchy drivers accidently upshifting over bumps.
- Air compressors required to pressure the air shifter are working overtime and changing gears is a hit or miss situation.
- Wiring loom is a nasty road car thing that is being squashed by the carbon FIA safety seat, most of these are fretting already.
- Multiple cars have had split fuel lines due to cheap hose.
- Cars had a lack of spigot bearing therefore the input shaft was flopping around, wearing out clutches.
- Uprights are incredibly fragile.
- Fuel pump issues due to the way the pumps are located in the tanks, requiring huge fuel loads, all the time.
- Longevity of road car rotors and pads has been questioned.
- Limp mode is engaged commonly due to fuel pressure issues from the pump, ending sessions for drivers.
- Engines vary 10hp, a huge number given the overall power.
- Front Bulkhead on tub is flexing under brakes, drivers then report a soft pedal.
- One tub had a delamination from normal use and had to be replaced due to lack of construction quality control.
- FIA Safety seat inserts have been bolted into the tub due to them sliding around, which defeats the purpose.

Is Australian F4 the only one using the Mygale chassis?

There is a Formula 4 in Mexico?

And the Spanish F4 was not started this season...
