Was you not at that 'damp' touring car meeting at Brands last year?!

Big mistake!

First time for me at BTCC @ Brands...and I have a few quick questions

I was planning on parking at scrathers lane at 6.30am (Sat) and 7.30am (Sun)....I would camp, but I only live 15 miles away so will be driving down and back home

1. will I be too late to get a space? or too early for the gate to even be open?
2. will there be a lot of traffic at this time?
3. can you advise a better time for me to park up?

Thanks in advance

@ Tom1: Those times look good, particularly as there will be a lot of people at sign-on. Coming off the M25 up the A20, should be ok at that time, but don't hold me responsible for any hold-ups on the M25.

1 No, & no.
2 No
3 No (I wouldn't leave it any later than 730 on Sunday)

I usually aim to arrive at Scratchers Lane around 645-7 for a 7am sign on. I don't know what time the gate is opened but it's before then. A BTCC meet will be busy so if you arrive after 650 then the Triangle car park will be filling up. I've always (eventually) found a space even arriving at around 5-10 past 7.
Traffic depends on what direction you arrive but at 630-650am on Sat I'll only see a handful of cars coming from Bexleyheath. (I don't go on the M25)
Sunday is the same until you get to the bottom of the A20 Main Road Gorse Hill which starts to get busy from 730-745am.

There is plenty of parking, it is reserved for us, I've never seen it more than half full also there won't be much traffic unless someone has run out of talent on the M25, (getting out is usually more trying) signing on is 7.00 until 8.00 (8-9 sun) usually so not much point in getting there too early, I personally will roll up at 7.30 or so although I'm sure there are people who will either turn up at 7.59 but also there will be people there when the gates open, down to personal preference but as you live so close you might not need to leave so much clearance. But, as I say, up to you.

No mistake, it was awesome!
Watching the cars slide in the wet

But then I was on Post 25 in the shade from the cold wind. As I found out when I crossed the pit lane and was hit by the windchill!

Cheers for the advice guys,

I shall stick to my plan and hope for the best. I may skip the M25 between jct 7 and 4 just to be on the safe side. I know what the clacket lane stretch can be like sometimes!!!

I can certainly vouch for how cold it was. Us lot on 19 ended up walking down to the med centre and getting some latex gloves. Worked wonders keeping the hands warm.

They don't give you that sort of advice on the training days!!

We gave over thirty black/white flags on Sunday for "exceeding track limits", plus several "drive throughs" for repeated failures. A certain Mr Watts in the Ginetta GTs, even had to repeat his drive through as he did the first one whilst the Safety car was out.

In practice/qualifying on Saturday drivers lost their lap time if their fastest sector speed (three sectors at BH), included a four wheels off report. The message on the timing monitors changed from "cars X, Y, Z HAVE LOST LAP TIMES " to "NUMEROUS TEAMS HAVE LOST LAP TIMES DUE TO EXCEEDING TRACK LIMITS".

Your reports are acted on.

Thanks to all the guys on post 20 for what must be one of the hottest marshalling weekends I have ever had in the UK. The look of relief on each incident team as they got to spend a session in the shade was great to see. I felt sorry for the 2 flaggies as they only got in the shade late in the afternoon, but even the hours in the sun didn't lower their enthusiasm. Even with the heat the humour was very much in evidence and the impromptu trackside picnics at lunchtime brought lots of smiles out from the course car crews and circuit staff.

Wot Mike said... Great weekend on Post20, even when Mr. Neate(?) decided to give everyone a nasty case of Gravel Rash in the last race.

The only downside to the hot weather was the abandonment of the Post 20/20 Cricket match at lunchtime...but the shady spot for lunch was much more inviting...

Just one last question, where did the "brave, brave Sir Robin" go to? Ni!!

Hi Paul
Glad you had a good weekend on 15 I see you kept things going on the Sunday after the busy Saturday we had think we were the busiest post on the circuit on Saturday, who said nothing ever happens at 15 I do hope some one kept up with the camp flagging and safety car board holding

I did see you guys on the TV on Sunday dealing with the Gineta

Super job from all on post 20, thanks guys.
The combination of mini pork pies and Roger Allnut was disastrous on Saturday!
