Yes. In '96 &'97 for Garry Rogers' team.

In '96 Steve pranged it early in the wet and in '97 they came second.

They actually drove "together" at Hell Corner last year too.

Only they were in 2 different cars

Should be a pretty good prospect at Bathurst this year too.

They also started from the front row together in separate cars for the 1998 2L Bathurst 1000. It's the only time a Father & Son have shared the front row of the Great Race.

Actually it was the Great Race. It was the V8s that were the 'other' race those years. The 2Ls were on the October long weekend with a 10am start. Once that was over the V8s 'merged' its 2 year Bathurst history with the previous 38 years of Great Race history.

And it was a cracker of a race. The Volvo & Nissan going at it all day, right to the end.

I agree, no troubles there.

I don't consider the current Bathurst 1000 though having anything to do with the race run by the ARDC between 1963-1998. A different race with new traditions was started October 19, 1997, the original race with the original traditions ended October 3, 1999

Mattracer, commercially it was a disaster - as a race it was sensational.

Leaving all the politics out of it, the Great Race was on the October long weekend - hence the 2L's claim to the tradition.
Technically, that tradition ended when the 2L race failed, but for the sake of niceties, it's probably just that the V8s have inherited that tradition.

In its favour, the annual Bathurst 1000 was the race for the categories that took part in the Australian Touring Car Championship. That applies to the V8s now.
