Maybe, but anytime someone leaves a position of power after 23 years, there is bound to be some upheaval. What is questionable is whether anyone should be in power for 23 years.

It was more than their f1 results. Theyre weighing a public offering of the company on the american stock market. Montezemolo wasnt for that idea. So probably a combo of those.

There is another school of thought that claims the split was really due to a difference in the vision for their road cars. Many are suggesting that we will see a Ferrari SUV shortly, as FIAT want an increase in production.

It sounds like a combination of these factors. Fiat wanted to float the company on the stock market, LDM didn't want this. Fiat also wanted to significantly expand production but LDM wanted to keep production numbers as they are to keep the brand exclusive. Fiat couldn't float the company with Ferrari head disagreeing with the float so LDM was sacked. That's how I see it IMHO.

I don't think this will affect the racing side of the business as much as it will the roadcar business. Can't see it affecting the GT program either.

Either way; Ferrari fans have my sympathy. May it be a short and effortless transition.

Not so sure of this. Shareholders will want financial performance first and may see the large motor-sport budgets as being wasteful.

Not a bad race for #86 Gulf 991 RSR, 6th in GTE and 1st non-Ferrari GT finisher.

I would say ELMS GTE class looks even competitive than WEC AM, as neither #76 Imsa nor #96 AMR could repeat their previous WEC achievements.

Hope they could get the car to LeMans next year.

I reckon the Fiat's will have the edge over Porsche again this year , with Aston im not sure about .

But this GT racing is really good racing .

Im not sure should they stick with the presant GTE/GT3 set up or adopt GT3 altogether .

My question is what if any changes have been made with the 2015 season car. I didn't follow Daytona but know that an RSR was testing with the 919 evo at Yas Marina. What is adding more fire to this is the upcoming street RS and the speculation on the engine.

That's two turbocharged cars now. I wonder if they'll be making more turbo friendly regulations for 2016.

Good to see you around Badger, haven't seen much of you lately . Ah do I miss the earlier days of this thread, they were good times .

Ferrari hat off and GT racing lover hat on I agree that Ferrari will have an edge but Manthey are a very good crew so they will fight hard. Not up to speed on updates for both 458 and 991 this year so I'm not sure what has been done to the cars in the off season. Same for Aston, I'm sure they'll get another waiver/BOP break of some kind before the season starts to help those elderly Vantages, the new car can't come soon enough.

Meanwhile I'll be cheering on the Ferrari boys at Bathurst this weekend for the 12hr-AF Corse, Maranello Motorsport, Vicious Rumor Racing, Clearwater etc. We did it last year we can do it again!!

I never quite fathomed how the F458 could be replaced and this 488GTB confirms my suspiscions. The looks are not far off the F458. I really think Ferrari outdid themselves with the styling of the 458 and a large departure from it's styling would have been a backwards step for their entry level model. F458 is still Best looking car ever made in my mind.

All indications is that the new 991 GT3RS will have the 9a1 engine. Porsche AG has stated that they were not going to invest in a new motorsport engine until the new technical regs are in place. Mezger in 991 in 2015.

Right, what I meant was the supposed new engine in the RS. I see this as Porsche marketing speak for new to the RS and not a new design. It will be the 9a1 as is the case in the GT3. Perhaps they are looking for even greater differentiation between the humble GT3 and the RS seeing as how the RS is the basis homologation wise for the RSR. I doubt it.

I would love to know that Porsche have exerted some pressure on the powers that be in order to justify the large investment in developing a new Motorsport engine. Back to my question.

Does anyone know what Porsche/Manthey have done to the 2015 RSR? I really hope we aren't mearly looking at BOP requests.

You hit the nail on the head my friend.
It's not exactly a stretch to make a strong business case for attracting more manufacturers through judicious use of BoP. The sanctioning bodies for all sportscar series are trying to gain traction. It is a business after all.

Yeah I've said it before but if you read back to this thread to this thread, 2008-2009 and even 2010 still, there were some intriguing 'arguments' going on for the pros and cos of the models and their performances and such. You could have been really proud what your F430 or 997 achieved at the race track. But now it's all rather irrelevant

German SportAuto reported that 2016 turbo's will not use air restrictors but electronic systems - I guess not having to build a "restrictor plate" engine will make life a lot easier

Disagree, to me future GTE cars should use a GT3 approach, with engines that share most of the parts with the street motor, the power output kept under control via ECU revlimit, so no air restrictors at all.
Example: ferrari developes the 3.9 V8 twin turbo for the 488 GTE, then brings it to FIA to homologate it. FIA tests it on dyno and set ECU to set a specific revlimit; if the engine reaches 500hp at 6200rpm, the engine simply can't rev over 6200rpm. Of course once the engine is homologated, the motor can't be upgraded until the end of the season!
This way, there won't be no need to impose displacement or layout restrictions.
