Just a small survey as a point of intrest

Q. which was the best form of touring car in OZ and why

A. well for me by far its Group A due to lots of different makes and great cars at that to! & the top drivers of the time
remember G Fury in the Nissan and young Seton also R Vrancavic in the Volvo then they was Richo & Longhust in those black BMWS
DJ in the mustang PB inthe VK all great cars & no spoliers even when all the areo aids and turbo's came in it was a good!

Ray Bell should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Earlier than that, the days of the Mustangs, Camaros, Lotus Cortinas and so on. Bartlett in the GTA, Geoghegan versus Jane, Beechey and Moffat, ring-ins like Bryan Thomson... and even earlier, the S4 Holdens...

Lots of excitement those days, though the racing didn't have the depth of the fields of today, not as close, anyway.

I agree with Ray, the Touring cars of the '60s were very exciting, but there wasn't anywhere near the closeness of racing and depth of competition. In those days, a small low budget privateer, on a good day, could finish a round in the top 6. Now, he would be lucky to qualify in the 32.

Overall, i guess i would have to say that Group A was the best formula, but for one loophole which eventually ruined the class.

Whichever era you say was the best (all subjective of course) thinkI can guarantee that ALL will say an era when there were more than two makes running nose to tail and there was such a thing as <shudder> overtaking on the RACE TRACK!
