Cadwell Pk circuits changes

During the winter months there are some changes happening to Cadwell. On the exit down from Mansfield they are introducing what could amount to a Chicane, by bring the track over to where the Race Control buiding stands on the Club Circuit, before it rejoins the existing track giving a straight run to the Mountain Bottom.

Might look something like this.....there again it might not !!

Also the bank being removed from the exit of Hall Bends, some resurfacing and changes to some of the tyre walls and barriers

At the training day we were in the club circuit timing office, and the layout was being marked out. From what I could gather it looked more like the bus-stop at mallory, and not going out as far as shown on pixies diagram.

But then again John Watson or one of the Cadwell regulars might be able to clarify for sure.

Why not just use the existing chicane on the other side of the track in the same place?

I have deep regret that the Star of the Midlands FF1600 (and even Monoposto) won't be going to Cadwell this year.

Hoping against hope for some enterprising soul to put on a Libre race of sorts and/or I might try and fix myself up with an F4 drive for the rounds there.

As Alan said, it will be more like an additional 'Bus Stop' that is to be used by Bikes only, as it will be too tight for any Formula of Car to get round. I hope that this clarifies the matter.

Could be interesting at the hairpin with the banking on the exit to hall bends removed. Will some drivers become braver through the bends?

I understand the chicane is for the use of motorbike racing and will not affect the circuit layout for cars (karts, I haven't a clue, sorry!). The changes at Hall bends mean a straighter and quicker line as the bank is being moved back. The one thing that worries me there is in cars the temptation may be to "cut" the corner resulting in arriving at the hairpin much faster than previously, or safe... Volunteer Marshals for the hairpin form an orderly queue here....

What a shame it's just bikes using it, or is that just my evil, twisted mind working overtime (stock hatch anyone?)

I know that the chicane was required to break up the blast along to mountain bottom, but will that really make much difference? Wait & see I suppose.

Thanks for the pics pixie!

Are they changing the line of the track through Hall Bends?

As far as i'm aware the only change at Hall bends is the removal of the bank on the exit and necessary safety work as a result.

Hmmm.....is that tyre wall going to be permanent? Chicanes are bad enough without making them 'blind'!

I think I'll ask for Mansfield....

I don't expect it to be insitu when we race there, however it depends on the ACU Circuit Inspection body, who have to agree final placings for bales and tyres for bike meetings

Trying to work out how the track at Hall Bends has been 'modified'. Do I presume that the old " viaduct" wall on the inside between Hall Bends & Old Hairpin has been removed or moved back?
If so, this will not only make the exit of Hall Bends a lot safer but will increase the speed a little through the bend but also increase the entry speed to the Old Hairpin.
I'm wondering if the Hall Bends marshal post could now be moved a little further towards the Hairpin .....this would improve the flagging position and lines of sight to the Hairpin. Perhaps the interim flag posts could go thus improving marshalling numbers at proper posts ( much needed often when numbers are short).
Whatever the answers, greatly looking forward to our annual visits the Lincolnshire Nurbugring and the fleshpots of Louth!

Yep! Are , memories of excitement, tyre smoke & hot brakes..............
If that wall is taken back and/or removed, the marshals' post could go roughly where it was ( but further back , of course,)and possibly have a view from mountain top to the Old Hairpin.
Great place for blue flagging and entry speeds would certainly be quicker into the Old Hairpin. Possibly not such a good idea to stand behind those " super bales" on the exit now..............

Graduates aren't going to Cadwell this year either, so it would be good to have a "libre" race there (is it possible to run open and closed wheelers together?). Anyone know of any events that might be opened up to allcomers?

While they are doing all this work on the circuit, any possibility of building a few 'Thunderboxes' for us poor Marshals, I am fed up of wandering off, toilet roll in hand to the nearest wood like some nomadic shambolic bear for a humpty dumpty, I tell you it is hell in the summer!!

Thanks Pixie - Can I check I follow this correctly, the bank at the exit of Halls Bends, (shown in Pixies first picture) has been moved back slightly, making the approach to Hairpin faster.

Also, has the wall been moved further back at "Hairpin) (bottom picture)? It looks farther away than my memory believes!

It's a big drop behind the barrier at the hairpin, only sufficient space to walk along. So the barrier can't really go back

Hi Pete,

I thought that was the case - I managed to put two big tramlines down the side of my car during my first visit to Cadwell last year!
