more about BMW entering (with a proper, international homologation GT, from 2019 on) the WEC [AMS, ger]
Seems to be a M6-based GT, but would need to have its engine shrunk (down to 4l). in other news, LMP1 fuel cell off the table for the moment, too high investments necessary it seems (500M cited); up to 60 guysngals seemed to have worked on a P1 concept up to jan 2016. Roadmap for P1 (fuel cell) 2020 G56, 2021 (regulations pleasing, pending) Last edited by Ephaeton; 19 Aug 2016 at 11:25. |

It means that If one of the Formula 1 team withdraw the Formula 1 championship due to the sponsorship or the Formula 1 results issues , they might partnering with BMW LMP1 team
For example: BMW V12 LMR team partner with WilliamF1 since 1999 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_V12_LMR Do you understand??? |

Sure, it may theoretically happen I guess, but so might SEAT building Porsche-beating LMP1 next year too. Theoretically. |

I Hope that will happen too. Especially Sauber F1 team who struggles financial difficulties (e.g salary delays and so on) and the result of F1 team is worst (I mean the team championship and driver championship are in the last place) or least successful in Formula 1 but it need to depends of the results for next season. @Chiana If this statement is incorrect please correct me Last edited by AkioAsakura95; 19 Aug 2016 at 14:10. |

I hope it's not m6 based, but z5/supra (w.e. Toyota calls it).

*600 Hp for GTE in 2019 (100 more than now) * DTM need to be renewed and reinvented The mood of the three manufacturers participating is negative and all of that are now firmly anchored in the GT3-business - so there are alternatives in the event if the downward trend continue. Super GT3? Like the SuperGT rumor, and eventually a GTE if the convergence GT is successful. |

Good news.
The extra garages can't be built soon enough. |

After losing long time supporters like JMW this year to make way for 12 Fords, I'm a little wary. Hopefully we don't lose the little guys again.

This can only be good news. A major manufacturer committing to the GT ranks. The only downside is that it means no LMP1 campaign.

That BMW press release in full. Heavy emphasis on production-based racing as usual, with the notable exception of Formula E.

Any manufacturer entering the WEC can only be doing it for good reasons and I hope it goes well enough for them. This is more good news for the series

That more manufacturers are comitting(BMW)/showing interest(Lambo) is incredibly promising considering that GTE was once criticized for being an unsustainable one-off category that can only race in the WEC/IMSA.

Wonderful news to here that BMW is coming back to Le Mans...just splendid!
Can anyone speculate on which car they are going to go with? I am think they run the new designed M6 but have ready they might go in a different direction. |

I know the rlm crew were saying at cota it won't be the supra/z5 but I don't see what else it could be. Unless the 6 series is more sporty, I doubt that's the choice. There's rumors that the 6 will be like the 5 series GT and a hatchback type of car. That won't do it.

Is the M2 or M4 an option? I don't know the BMW range very well

Can you not just do a GTE/GT3 M4 as well? We've had a hundred different spec 911s over the decades.
I also don't see what else they can do other than the Toyota collaboration. |

I guess so. I think it helps to have a race car developed on a certain body source, so in my mind M6/4 are in the pole position (because of the GT3 experience on the 6, and the then existing development experience on the 4), albeit the M6 seems quite chunky to me. Then again I'm no car designer

I suppose a new Z8 could be possible before 2018.
