That brought some delights with it.

How about a guy in a big yellow 'Busby' costume. Remember the adverts? We had that to contend with at a very wet Snetterton.

Blimey, I dont know much about that car, but the Baker one was an ex Boreham car I think? But was left hand drive? I think they were perhaps looking for things to tes for the RS1700T after the RS Escorts were retired.

I know Ford built a few works fwd Fiesta's, but the Bob Smith car?? He was pretty quickly into a Mk2 as I'm sure I ahve pics of him in 86 in a Mk2 with a big spoiler.

And I am sure Gary Baker built the Fiesta into a new shape one that went on to being owned by Mark Flaherty aswell.

Otehr than that, news to me, I never even knew about the Bob Smith car. So nice to see you are building one, cool beans!

rallycrosscraig has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I doubt any mk1 fiesta rallyx shell would have survived.
Does anyone know of any?
I used to have a rally 1300 that A Donaldson did the Swedish rally in and that shell got scrapped due to rot - and that was back in 1989!

@ schanche, I remember that car, always reminded me of a starlet hot rod for some reason, probably cos it was rear wheel drive.

I cannot remember if spectators were allowed in to the first tvs made of tv events, but I didn't miss too many rallycross events in Kent in those days, so should have some pictures somewhere, but wont get a chance to look till the weekend. Fingers crossed they are not amongst a batch I lost to water damage.

I have to be honest, some the races uploaded look like they were staged?

In one race the lead changed so many times and drivers were missing gears, going wide nearly every corner!

Maybe that's why there were no Speccies there! Was filmed after the 85 GP though, so hardly likely to get thousands there

I had a chat with Gary Pusey at Lydden and I asked him about his Mk1 Fiesta. Gary was somewhat surprised I could remember, he said he raced in Formula B and Formula C.

Good to catch up with Gary again. I raced against him when he had the Escort RWD of Dave Davies. Yes he was Super Rod WC in a Mondeo.

Schanche you building a Mk1 Fiesta ? Wow any pics yet ? I used to have a Fiesta 1300cc Supersport.

That was my thoughts of the first series, maybe a case of for the good of Rallycross, got the feeling the welch xtrac could have opened a bigger gap if needed but in later years didn't tempers start to flare with the renny/gollop track blocking incident. Or am I getting my meetings confused?

Also they had to get 6 weeks of tv coverage and racing shot in a day, so maybe no putting the car at risk, plus were heat times important? Think it was just finishing position.

Can any one else help Tony. I thought I had a photo of the car, but sadly was unable to find one.

I`m sure spectactors were not allowed into the event the screen shots are from. My memories of Bob Smith are in Mk 2 escorts I think, running 177, so the race number 45 has me a bit stumped. I looked through my photos back to 1986 and cannot find a number 45 fiesta.

Tony, where did the 1985 come from, was that the date of the event? or the year TVS showed the series?

TVS used to film in december, (after the GP), and show it in the following year. So was wondering if that car was in that paint scheme in dec 1984, or december 1985?

I will check the recording again but according to Mark Lloyd in the escort he thinks it was 85 and I think Struggers also thinks it's is possibly 85. Now I have to
Watch the video again? oh well has to be done.

What a strange thread this is turning into all very confusing?
Stephen just watched 85 Brands GP B final and Dimi is running in the same colours as in the Videos with Bob,having watch the videos again and like others have said looks a bit staged! and as Struggers mentioned drivers were asked to make the racing exciting? I can only think that Bob Smith must have used the Fiesta either as a reserve car to make up the numbers in the heats or maybe he was trying it as a possible replacement for the Escort. Either way its very strange, like Stephen said Bobs number is 177 so if Bob was racing the car officially he would of had to use his race number I presume on the Fiesta. I cant find out much about Steve Bradley and the Fiesta and why he was not at the event which makes the car even more Interesting and just to add more confusion in the following videos from the same event Bob is back in his Escort 177! All very strange maybe Bill can help?

But with the Pictures I managed to grab from video I think we have enough to replicate on the Fiesta. The RWD Fiesta will be running a Focus ST170 Engine on twin Weber 45's and a locked Diff with the possibility of upgrading to a Lsd at a later stage

Thanks again Stephen for the help! at least it gave you an excuse to get to look through all your old photo's again

Cheers all
Tony

Maybe the commentator got the name wrong ?
I know Arthur is still about as he called the workshop last week.

Schanche there is already a Mk1 Fiesta running a Zetec in Hillclimbs, although I think he was changing to a Duratec.

http://www.zetecinside.com/xr2/index.shtml

What ever you do make sure you keep the Mk1 boot lid, don't run a Mk2 it looks horrible. You really need to make the car look like the old Group 2 Fiesta. Now that's retro old skool.

I did find my Mark Lloyd photos that you were after, so will scan and email to you next weekend.

Sorry about the 84/85 year confusion, no speakers attached to PC, so could not here Arthur commentary when I looked at the clips.

will try to find my GP programme and see if there was a 45 listed, wonder if there was a lydden winter series round late nov, or early dec 1985

Im pretty sure you will find the number 45 fiesta was Dean Bradleys before bob smith drove it, he 1st started in rallycross in a mk2 escort in 1983 before getting the fiesta he drove the escort in the rallycross gp in 1983 as number 145. hoe this helps !
