It's a shame that the Le Mans program has been cancelled. It's great that they are still trying to stay invloved in racing by starting a GT project, but Le Mans needs constructors like Dome to keep things fresh and interesting.

What a shame. But this GT pogramme is interesting, hopefully it is a Gt2 car and then we shall hopefully see Dome back at le Mans again. If Dome is still building chassis for Honda in GT500, then I can only see them in GT1/GT2 or Super GT GT300.

In these economic times it is hard for a lot of companies to invest the money required for proto racing so it is a good enough consolation to see Dome trying a GT program. Hopefully, we'll continue to see the Dome name at Le Mans in some shape or form in the years to come.
The car ain't that bad either.

Probably their mistake was built one expensive LMP1 coupe instead a cheap open LMP2.... But the S102 was really fast, probably with a decent money they would be faster than the Lola-Aston Martin. It´s a shame

The S102 was (probably) a Toyota toe-in-the-water, so therefor an LMP2 would be meaningless.

If thats the case does the termination of the Dome project indicate that Toyota have finally pulled the complete plug on the notion of a return to LM with an LMP?

In my mind, Yes.
When the economic crisis hit, they probably put the project at hold, and with the following problems (ex. the speeder issue) they probably have chosen with a cheaper program in WRC, and cancelled their project/order at Dome.

Never say never, I would guess if someone was prepared the bankroll an effort then Dome would be back, which is the same as Lola, Dallara and the many other companies who supply racing cars.

I think Dome is more like Prodrive in the way it runs its operations, as oppose to Lola.
Lola's prime target is to sell cars to show case their engineering skills. While Dome and Prodrive is more over to run things for other companies, to show case their engineering skills. Either works as long as it keeps the wolves from the door.

Sport-carracing.net reported about next project of Dome.
Next car will be a road-going car.
The GT2(or LMP2(!?)) spec vehicle might be manufactured based on this car.
Dome plan to clarify technical details(including the secret) of S102 in a few days.

Minoru Hayashi tweeted that Dome had completed the update of S102.
(This tweet was deleted.)
It corresponds to the 2011 regulation, and a suitable for calling S102.5.
However, this car never racing.
He is joking that the apartment was able to be bought at the update cost.

The image from the sports-carracing.net link posted above shows the Dome with the 2008 full width rear wing still. So perhaps somebody could use the twitter thingie and suggest Hayashi post some newer photos.

Can we now put the Dome S102 into that intriguing list of sportscars that ran once only, and the even more rarified list of those whose sole running was at Le Mans?

Have a look at this: http://www.dome.co.jp/news/racereport/mdt_003.html

There are wind tunnel model pics of the finished S102 car complete with smaller rear wing completely redesigned rear end and a 2011 honking fin.
Really sad that we will never see this car on track.

Wow, that is amazing that they would continue to develop the car without a racing partner. Does anybody know what the article says? My Japanese translator isn't working well.

Yes it is quite amazing and a shame. I really like the car, would of been nice for someone of credibility to have been involved in the running of one. Same with the EE, shame we will not get to see them run in anger anymore.
