Clearly a logical deal all around. It was sure to happen and it did.

Yes, but neither FIAT nor Toyota have a bike line of products. And while Yamaha at one time was an engine supplier in F1, they do not sell cars (at least not to my knowledge). So it is marketingwise not an issue to have the sponsorship on a bike.
A Toyota-Honda on the other hand is a total no go. |

So will we have another retro team in 2015, possibly 2014?
A Williams-Honda perhaps? And rumour suggests McLaren will lose the silver on their cars next year. |

While if you believe the boys & girls at Autosport... Here, McLaren may not be the only Honda-powered team in 2015....

I'm also wondering if Honda will enter this year with one of the 'lower order' teams to gain experience like they did with Spirit before the full Williams Honda effort...

Honda currently have a single turbo V6 engine in Indycar, so perhaps some useful info from that. |

An interesting article from Autosport, on how McLaren see their future with Honda.

Mclaren's Brand.
Was just thinking, this deal really redefines McLarens brand, more average worker than Director of the business which you work at. will be interesting to see what associate sponsors / partners they will achieve through this partnership.

And it begins... the usual whinging by Ferrari.
Stefano Domenicali says Honda has an advantage. "We could not enforce Honda to freeze its engine as it is not yet registered in the world of F1 and, above all, an attitude of "closure" would alienate any other manufacturers who might be interested. "We realise that the Japanese will be able to enjoy a great advantage, being able to adapt its engine as a function of the problems that will be recorded during of the season, but we have not been able to do anything." Domenicali says Ferrari "could not enforce" Honda to freeze development of the engine by 28th Feb 2014. Does that mean Ferrari tried to stop Honda but failed? Or is just a case of wrong wording and he should have maybe said "cannot enforce"? Would not surprise me one bit if Ferrari actually tried to force Honda to stop development after February next year, but was told no by the FIA. |

The Ferrari PR machine is just amazing. I mean, for the last month, every other day there was something from Luca di Montezemolo being published on all news sites, now from Domenicali. Ferrari may be finishing 2nd or 3rd in constructor standings, but they sure generate the noise worthy champions.
The whining about Honda is completely unfair. Any idiot would predict that in 2015, Honda's absence from 2014 season will be a handicap, not an advantage, since the engines will not be race tested. Yes, Honda will be able to record and study the problems of the 2014 season engine failures, but it's not like other manufacturers won't be doing the same. |

Yes. Have a read of the 2014 F1 Sporting Regulations , page 46, Appendix 4, power unit homologation.

Off topic, but reading Appendix 7, Red Bull Racing's entry fee for the 2014 season is $US 3'633'724!
Compared to the entry fee for the 2012 season, which was US $397'899. Bit of a difference. Although, the entry fee for this year were pretty similar to next year, so the teams are not complaining as much this year. |
