Thanks Peter. Seems the ever more congested UK calendar is still causing some issues for organisers, and we’re still waiting for MRL and GTSCC. It’s pretty much a given that the latter will be at Donington HF in May and Portimao at the end of Oct, but there’s two more races to fit somewhere! MG Live would be a good fit for one of them, both date wise and circuit.....

Ah, I don’t expect many of the GTSCC regulars will be racing (or spectating for that matter) at the moderne 24 heures.....

But you may be visiting La Sarthe?

Has to be done! I’ve been twice, first time as a very casual spectator en route to further south. Not a good way to do it! Second time was when helping a mate in the MRL race. Pee’d down, freezing cold and didn’t get any sleep (was in his Dastle in the paddock....), but enjoyed the pits atmosphere. Graham Turner was there with his 917 on the Gulf stand, so I got to spend a bit of time in more comfort, thanks to him!

Some of the cars I saw racing the first time I went (1991) now compete at the Classic...

Had a couple of very enjoyable years there working for Audi on press stuff but haven't been since 2006, the same year I last went to the Classic.

For what's it's worth, I live almost exactly halfway between LM & Snetterton!

1991 !!!! What a sheila you are… You can't imagine the atmosphere we had in the '70s. Try to get some pictures of the "coursives", behind the stands. They were briefly spotted in Mc Queen's movie. Imagine the Matra's singing in the Hunaudières long straight, at night and WOT by pack of two, like mermaids gliding in the air… Unforgettable fantasy. Literally hairy.

I waited until they'd built the new pits! The sound of the Corvettes thundering between the pits & stands was quite impressive.

We went back to our B&B in town for a few hours but I remember laying awake listening to the Mazda...

Interesting! I was reading somewhere recently about the death of it two or three years ago due to lack of entries, so wonder what’s changed?

Well, Oldtimer doesn’t clash with anything.....

Yes sir! We do have a sound specialist here. A great majority of people will tell you how awful the Mazda sound was. But when they came back, and won, with the supercharged four barrels engine, yes the song was comparable to the last version of the Matra V12 (not so good as previous). I'm bluffed, its the first time I meet someone saying that. Bravo Monsieur, vous avez de l'oreille.

I got the email too. Very tempting, never done it. Anyone here done it? Is it as good as it sounds? 3 hours and only 20 laps! Mind you, we have had a Spa 6 hour like that

No, not done it, but like Iain- it's on my bucket list....

Here is the email intro. There is a lot more specific info but too much to post. Anyone interested, pm me your email address and I'll forward to you…

"Invitation to the Revival of the AvD-Historic Marathon.

In the past, the AvD-Historic-Marathon had always been one of the highlights of the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix race weekend. One of the key findings from our participants’ survey this year was that there is a strong request for this long-distance race for classical race cars to be back at the legendary Nordschleife. The organisers of the spectacular oldtimer event have much discussed how a come back of the AvD-Historic-Marathon within the framework of the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix 2019 (Date: 9 – 11 August 2019) could be implemented. The basic concept has now been finalised and all the teams and drivers of historic touring cars and GT cars (built from 1947 up to 1990) are cordially invited to submit their entries for the new edition of this event from now on.

For the 26th AvD-Historic-Marathon to actually be on the programme next year, a minimum of 100 binding entries (including the payment of the entry fees) are required up to the 22nd of February 2019.

We are looking forward to your participation and for your commitment to continue with this fantastic tradition in historic long-distance racing at the Nordschleife."

Agreed and seconded - but I read in that email they're laying on a special training day on the Thursday before the Marathon weekend so could be do-able?

Yes, although more track time would definitely benefit, there is the chance to have tuition and qualify for the ‘Ring licence’ on the Thursday. Good idea from the organisers!

Some of us have a modicum of tracktime historically - but not recent enough to count.
Doing some digging, the Permit C should be straightforward
"National A license holders can get a permit C with a relatively simple e-learning course and track walk"

- worried about having to walk 20k

Only 16 miles for you Plus the F1 track another 3.2 miles. You can ask if Terence's Border Colley can help you. She's fast!

From memory, previously you had to satisfy Nurburgring Driving Academy tests, may be two days plus a VLN race. Then you were granted a kind of driver pass for the next 5 coming years. Demanding. Good if they have special accommodations.

Unless there is a meeting on the 24th is a Saturday which is not related to the VSCC perhaps?
