Werewolf should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Best books

I have just got my ARDS licence and plan to go racing.Unfortunately my mechanical/engine knowledge is limited.Any ideas which books to read to educate me? Will probably be racing Formula Ford/Vee or bike engined kit car.I know I must sound like a numnut but I dont want to be totally lost when entering my first race.

try http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...556132-7131809 for a general book on cars.

APart from that there are some very specialised books but not that you need at the moment.

Try getting the Haynes manual for you road car and looking at various parts, play with a few things. Also try getting an old engine from a scrap yard and 'play' with it. Nothing beats playing with things first hand.

imull has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Race and Rally Car Source Book by Alan Staniforth has come in quite useful during my course. I think its on the third edition now.

It goes into everything but is written fairly simply.

Re: Best books

In no particular order:

Carrol Smiths:
Tune to Win
Engineer to Win
Prepare to Win
Drive to Win
Allan Staniforth, Competition car source book
How to build Horsepower - David Vizard
Racing the Small Block Chevy - Steve Smith Autosports (applies to most engines)
How to make your car handle - Fred Puhn

And whatever Haynes manual is applicable to your motor (if any).

There's loads available - when you've got an understanding each area has it's own selection of books..

my planned third one... but as its not even close to written yet - be a bit late - you can't go far wrong with my first for a bit of all round knowledge.

Get started in motorsport published by Veloce.
