Raven should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Kimi sets the record straight

1 Kimi Raikkonen McLaren-Mercedes M 1m10.937s 84
2 Alex Wurz McLaren-Mercedes* M 1m11.914s 92
3 Pedro de la Rosa Jaguar M 1m13.215s 46
4 Eddie Irvine Jaguar M 1m14.978s 49

Kimi Raikkonen shaved a few hundredths of Juan Pablo Montoya's record at Valencia to end the final day of testing at the head of the timesheets, setting a new marque of 1m10.937s.

The Finn, who set his best time on a fresh set of soft compound Michelin tyres, enjoyed a productive day's work, completing 84 laps of the Spanish circuit. McLaren tester Alex Wurz was the busiest driver of the day, covering 92 laps as he worked on tyre testing in a 2001-spec car. Although he was almost a second slower than Raikkonen, he was very happy with the new rubber, which he reckons is worth a second a lap compared to last year's Bridgestones.

Even as a Michael Schumacher fan, I find it reassuring that Kimi has "set the record straight". I know the time will come when the torch will be passed to a new and worthy champion. I am delighted that Kimi, a true rookie in 2000 and probably not old enough to buy beer on this side of the pond, has shown the traditional "old head on young shoulders" and has matured so quickly (he apparently does everything quick!!). And one more thing....

This back up my idea that Kimi will win races this year.

I'm glad to see him going quick but as so many people have said (when JPM set a new record) "Its Only Testing". He still has to finish the races. If he's been out today in qualifying trim with the perfect weather conditions, he'd want to be quick. Otherwise Big Ron wouldn't be happy...

Is this a little insight into your relationship (with Kimi)???

Yup. I should have typed 2001 for Kimi. My point is that Kimi was a true rookie last year in both the letter and spirit of the term. Meaning that he had absolutely no experience as test driver or anything close to an F1 drive. He did very well but the impressive thing is that he seems to have made another big jump in performance over the winter. Perhaps the "if you want to win, hire a Finn" saying has a ring of truth to it.

Cheers,

RT

if this is the case, then i for one, don't think that kimi has much of a future then! dc will not achieve anything, apart from a win, maybe two and kimi will run him close, maybe even getting his first win along the way!
