Dan Rear should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Dan that sounds good, get 'em posted. I recall your Dad/Uncles car, they used to get as far as Mallory/Donington where I was at the time, occasionally. Very nicely turned out car as I recall, tho' a little outpaced by some of the more sophisticated stuff out by the mid/late 70s.

Looking at some of the Escorts featured on the various 'special saloon' websites out there i'd have to agree with what you were saying about it being well turned out. Like you say, its a shame that by that time the rules had been stretched and 'proper' cars were no longer competitive.

What colour scheme was their Escort running at the time you remember it?

At first it was white with red and blue stripes, after that they got some sponsorship from a plant hire company down south 'Agent Plant Hire' and it appeared in orange and grey. It sat in our garage (engine less) for years before being sold to Stuart Oliver of truck racing fame. He fitted a BDA (i think) and painted it in Zakspeed Castrol colours. Last i heard he'd sold it someone in Ireland - so i guess its still running.

No, we lived in Hornsea at that time, i'd forgotten about that - you've a better memory than i have

- i guess you also had a 'paddock' childhood as well.

Hi, just to let Comtec Renault know the Candy Imp was David Hall's old car and not John Holmewood's car and I think Robbie Knox may have the Homewood Davrian Imp. I can find out a bit more about it if you're interested.

I certainly remember Nick Pennell, I was his crew chief for a few years until him and his Brother Andy retired from racing. I took up racing Formula ford, Nick and I are still in touch, Andy sadly died a few years ago. I owe them and the likes of Richard Simms a lot. I do have a lot of padock pictures from the Wendy Wools days, one day i'll figure out how to post them.

Hi all. Some of you may like this. I found random photo's of assorted special saloons of various ages on a french website. Check out
http://www.trophee-saloon-car.com/ ,go to the retro page (links at the top) and click on the Camaro. Dont know why they are there as the cars arn't legal in the series as far as I'm aware but the french do things thier own way anyway!

Sorry Big Andy, I started racing in 79, we won BRSCC special saloon class title in 80. The team folded in about 84. I went on to race FF winning BRSCC open wheel championship in 90

I keep telling myself I have not retired. The car is sitting on stands in the garage, needing an engine/Gearbox adaptor casting following a big collision. I still keep my hand in driving other things occasionally, recently fulfilling a lifelong ambition to drive an older F1 car. My work also precludes me from serious competition as I spend about 5 months of the year out of the country and work most weekends during the summer in support of the Red Arrows.

Hi guys. I have tried this in the history section but you may be able to help me. Does anyone remember the Fiat 128 run in special saloons by Jean Denton? Would have been the early 70's. Does anyone know what became of the car? It was wide arched, yellow and blue and left hand drive. Any help appreciated as I would like to find this car. Thanks.
