i did have a feeling that it was Arild Martinsen and his Xtrac M3. not sure with the Stena signwriting though.

You are absolutely right richp175,i thought that the Stena Line sticker would create confusion.

Yep, 1995 ERC round at the "late" Mandescircuit at Ingelmunster in Belgium. © by Tim Whittington.

IIRC it was Olle Arnesson who was very interested in Arild Martinsen’s Xtrac BMW, but it went to Bengt Ekström eventually. He put the engine (a Heini Mader made converted IMSA engine, 2.3 T16 with 650+bhp), drive-train etc. in a newer and homologated shell to make it a BMW 318i 4WD. Wonder if the daddy of Mattias Ekström has it still in his garage…

No he hasn’t. Tomas Andersson bought it and used the transmission to build this

Blimey!!1 That is a fauirly convulted journey isnt for a gearbox and driveshafts!

AS I remember Martinsen could never keep tyres on the thing anywya, was pushing Xtrac about as far as they could go I think without using insane materials.

But remember before this Matti was pushing silly power out of his Porsche, and that was reliable, apart from the obvious punctures. In fact I would say that not watching Mati in that car was my biggest regret in rallycross!!
