Having a look through some old photos and found this pic of a start of one of Barry's races. Qualifying 3rd against all that muscle

Looks like the race was a dry start so I image the long drag up the hill made for an interesting first lap? I think we need to be told the story of the race Gordon - maybe treat us to the video? |

I have no idea who this is other than it appeared on Carl Fogarty's twitter.
I t provided me with a certain amount of amusement. Credit to Kieran for bringing it to my attention. https://twitter.com/i/status/1109165446652149760 And I have just worked out what PMSL means! |

I very rarely filmed races and I didn't have a GoPro at that time only a camcorder and anything that was excess weight was thrown out, my team only put enough fuel in to do the hour and I actually ran out on the slowing down lap It was a quick car in it's day and weighed 660 kilos. I was running a 1500cc crossflow engine in it that day with "enough" HP and would happily pull between 9-10,000 all day long. Last edited by GORDON STREETER; 24 Mar 2019 at 15:22. |

Busy Javelin Track Day today with the usual mix of Race / Sprint / Rally cars along with road & Trackday cars.
Racing cars included a pair of MGCC Midgets. a BMW 3 series, a Locost and a Clio from the 750MC, joined by a Radical & several MX5's & Caterhams. Sprint cars included a PCGB Porsche 944 who was running in a replacement engine, a MGZR, several MX5's & a Polo. A white MK1 Rally spec Escort was my personal favourite. Other cars out were the usual French Hot Hatches, pairs of Celica's, Porsches & Scoobys. Most unusual was definitely a Martini liveried Rage Buggy. Funny moment was putting a red out for 2 Swans who wouldn't get off the track, low point was a red for a 19 plate (3 week old!) MX5 which is now on its way to the Scrapyard after attacking the tyres on the Stebbe Straight. Just another day in paradise |

[QUOTE=Mike Bell;3893216]I bet no one got too near to the swans! And you’d have thought an MX5 would be a safe bet for a track day car....
We have a Mk4 MX5 and it is considerably more edgy that the previous MK3 in my opinion Always need to remember I am not driving the Giulietta when in the MX5 ... |

Interesting. Mk4 latest version, yes? I did hear it said by motoring journos that the new one was closer to the original in driver ‘involvement’. Better looking as well, to me.

Yes, the latest version. Sharper looking and still good fun. For goodness sake, it's even economical now - high 30's over a mix of short and longer journeys - and I do use the full rev range from time to time. There now follows a disclaimer - where safe and legal to do so, etc, etc, etc

Talking on the radio2 prog (forgot to switch it off ) about passengers being winched off the Cruise Ship by helichopper, and how terrifying that would be. No doubt that would be the case for many, but a lovely American couple on the TV this morning said (something like) ‘at Disney you’d have to pay for that- we got it for free!’ Good on them..... |

There seems to be a particular little bit of the Stebbe Straight that can catch people out and have them into the barriers in a trice - usually on the inside. Oddly it seems to be well along the straight bit rather than coming onto it. |

Seen that several times.....when I ran wide there once I was VERY careful not to try anything clever to regain the circuit quickly - just let it run gently back on in its own time - far too easy to try to "snap" back on and end up pirouetting into the inside barrier..... |

Croft Circuit have started re-surfacing the whole track today - BARC must have found some spare cash down the back of their sofa.
I wonder how many residents will get a knock at the door...."We're just doing your neighbour's driveway and we have a bit left over so we can do you a good deal..." |
