V8 supercar vs DTM vs ST transporters?

I'm curious. In real life, are the TRANSPORTERS for these 3 series all the same in size? I ask b/c I have a 1/43 scale DTM transporter (made by LbS) as well as a V8 Supercar transporter (Classic Carlectables). The DTM transporter seems to be significantly taller and longer!

If there was a size difference in real life, I would have thought the V8 Supercar transporter would be larger than their DTM/ST counterparts b/c of the smaller/crowded European roads??

Or all the DTM transporters larger b/c the DTM had bigger budgets than all the other series? Thanks ahead.

Maybe there are different needs for tyres/spares. Does DTM have a control tyre like V8 Supercar? How many tyres are needed to be carried by each team (per car)? How many cars per team?

But I expect you are right about DTM budgets.

Could also be due to different road regulations that exist in different countries? Just a thought

Indeed, aren't the bulk of the V8 transporters illegal on New Zealand roads?

Aussy trucks are to tall and long for NZ roads. I think the Aussy trucks would be the same as Europe as Aussy are the same as USA ones.

I think we're allowed a max height of 4.6m and length of 25m for B- Doubles .

Exactly- it would be hard to get transporters longer than a B double. How many trucks do the TWR group normally take to a race meeting?

This thread will probably get moved, but I as I mentioned at the beginning, the LBS 1/43 scale DTM transporter seems much larger than the 1/43 V8 Supercar transporter I also own. It just doesn't look right. It seems like the LBS transporter is in 1/40 or 1/37 scale?? OTOH, those model scales don't exist???

Yes Crash. A good mate of mine is an RTA inspector in Southern NSW and he tells me he has pulled over the Perkins rig on more than one occasion. It isn't even legal on Australian roads!!!

Would a race team build an illegal car if they thought they would get away with it. Some of the NZ ones are illegal too, usually over lenth because of the tail lifts being added.

For many, many years the maximum length in Asutralia for trailer only was 40'. It has now been increased slightly. The maximum height remains 4.6m. I know this as the son of a former interstate truck driver.

I work in international freight and i belive the maximum length for trailer only is 40' in both USA and Europe. The Americans, however have very low weight limits. We frequently have to send containers to USA half empty, otherwise they will be too heavy to carry on American roads.

As for Punter's assertion that Larry's transporter is illegal, I rather doubt it. If it was overlength it wouldn't have been registered, they do check these things you know and I very much doubt any V8 Supercar transporter would come anywhere near the 42 ton maximum weight. Hey, the guy claims to have a mermaid for a good mate, so you've got to be worried about him.

Maybe the models are just inaccurate (like my spelling of the word...)

Perkins did use a trailer owned by another racer, possibly owned by two world champs, hint hint, at different stages a few years ago. This trailer is quite possibly too big/heavy.

He now uses a new(er) B-Double setup that I would imagine is legal.

I think cattle and sheep trucks can be 5M high, is this correct? If so can TKR use a tall one

Perkins have had a number of trailers over the years, a certain trailer-making family used to supply him in kind on occassion rather than cash!

48' is now legal and is the length most V8's are but changing the cab will alter the overall length and that is how they by-pass the rules.

You got that right!!

This truck wouldnt be capable of carrying HRT's laundry!! OOPS, thats right, there is three different teams, I have to remember that.

Realisticly though, this truck is smaller than the ones the V8 teams use for their merchandise, probably relates to road rules in Yoo-Rope rather than the "Big Rig W@nk Factor"

They tend to have 5 or 6 trucks rock up to different races for a 2 or 3 car team though... here in Oz, being lazy and all, one truck is more than enough per team....

you can say that dtm teams have one truck per car (hospitality and small "trucks" not counted)
