Some marshals do drive in every morning but I don't know what it's like.. However still request a campsite plot as the vehicle pass will allow access to the campsite for parking... Without a pass you would be turned away somewhere on the A43 by police ..

Sorry Roy, you're wrong. I drove in every day last year and the pass you get is similar to the campsite one, you go down the same track, and instead of turning left into the campsite you go straight on into a carpark. Even with all the rain, I still got in and out easy enough, and that's in a Volvo Estate!
I was getting to the circuit between 5-30 & 5-45 each morning and drove straight in each time.
Ok, getting up at 4am is a pain, but it's outweighed by sleeping in my own bed and the ability to have 'proper food' and a bath.

wuss, thought part of the fun of motorsport was the whole campsite experience, living on meals out of a can/camping food heated up in a mess tin, having submariners' showers and enjoying the experience

Not at my age
Been spoilt over the years, all the overseas G.P's in recent times I have been staying in Hotels, so for our own G.P I stay in my own bed. Not tough like you chaps from 'over the border' I'm a southern softy.

It is fun at first...

But the fun vanishes rapidly as the rain continues to fall, muppets continue to turn the campsite into a quagmire, fireworks going off at 4am etc etc...

thought all you softy southerners would be tucked up in your sleeping bags by 11pm with a mug of hot chocolate lol so add to list of kit earplus for sleeping in. I admit when it comes to drinking I am a lightweight, 2 beers and a dram and I am going. Prefer tea on the trangia. Plus I hate waking up with a hangover

guessing there is no bothy/messroom facilities for us so bring tent that has space to sit in if it rains, of course I and my fellow scottish marshals will bring dry weather south with us as there is quite a few knockie newbies doing the gp

There is a big marquee up that they use for signing on and the party on saturday night which you could use, but its usually easier to bring a tent that you can sit in if it rains. Because usually then it means its big enough to wrestle yourself out of wet clothes etc without making all your bedding wet etc.

Of course it'll rain on the GP weekend.
It's happening at the same time as a little pop concert at some farm in Glastonbury.

I'd happily do the campsite. It's the GP that doesn't float my boat.

Bring plenty of chocks to level your machine. If you can't get out at the end, they have v.large JCB things that will do the job, so check out your towing eyes/system before you leave.

Plots are long and narrow, plenty for a campervan unless it's like a Winnegago with Jodrell Bank in its roof. If you decide your plot is unserviceable than you can move without too much fuss.

Your plot is chosen for you and will be in your final confirmation details.

Reasonable bogs provided top and bottom of field, disposal points, plenty of good showers, a small shop and good company.

Spare cars must have a sticker and are supposed to be parked near the edges of the field although no-one does.

Be advised, although security patrolled, ne'er-do-wells and riff-raff do get in and nick anything that isn't secure.
Question: You state "plots are long and narrow". I like my space and so have a 4 man tent. I trust that will fit along with a car in the space, or should I be considering on - down sizing?

You'll be fine, the plots are usually 8 x 10 metres I think (except the year the measurements went wrong...). Unless your 4 man Tent is huge there week be plenty of space for it and your car.

I took our family tent last year which has room for four "bedrooms" inside with living/eating space in the middle. It and my car fit on the pitch (I could have parked the car in the tent and had room to spare!).

That's because the bottom of the field had become so waterlogged they couldn't get a lorry down there to empty the loo tanks.

That's what I did last year, with no problems.

I've just found out though that this year's one sent an empty attachment to them, which isn't much help! Must send it again...
