In reality, it is become more pessimistic that the FIA WTCR season can open on June, as major motorsport events have been delayed no later than July.

I think everyone understood that Austria will be the championship season opener.

Austria now starts relaxing the restrictions, much advancing than other western counterparts. But Slovakia has less impact than the Western side. But the round in Hungary has already cancelled. So wait and see.

Hyundai boss is not optimistic that the season can open within a short time.

With a possibility to hold it behind closed doors, like F1?

With a shortened calendar which lasts from August to November basically WTCR will have just a European or an Asian season.
Wonder which continent will it be in the end

It is difficult to hold 20 races this season as promised earlier.

Seems like WTCR and Oriola are hinting on Pepe's return to the championship:

I doubt anyone would employ him. He is an average driver and he doesn't bring sponsors. However, his father is very close to WSC.

Seems likely that WTCR 2020 will be held in Europe only, after all:

If it has to be true, it has far-reaching implications for the future of the series.

It’s easier to do this, no more packing things to go to Asia

just wonder why the English media did not make this report? I cannot find the article in English Motorsport.com. Indeed the Asia market is pushing the championship.

Normal. The English journos are putting to much energies reporting videogames. The English press is no longer the main source of information.

TCR was always intended as a concept that could allow many regional/national series anyway.

SRO GT Challenge have the right concept when it comes to making a sudo-global championship. 3-4 key events globally, with national / continental championsips infilling.

I think unfortunately truly global championships area thing of the past outside F1, FE and maybe WEC. Unnecessarily shipping cars across the world when there is car with the exact same spec already there isn't exactly green.

I have to agree with you maximally!

Touring cars as a world championship was never working for a long period. Original WTCC only lasted a single season, ITC 2 seasons, and the new WTCC had its best years, when was just renamed from ETCC and had a few rounds outside Europe. When they expanded more to Asia/Americas most of the manufacturers were already gone except Chevy. TC1 was another wrong shot after all, and we saw the problems with a TCR based International Championship and now WTCR too...

WTCR to race at 6 venues in Europe only. 4 triple headers and 2 double headers for a total of 16 races.

Macau will run its Guia Race to 2.0T rules.

Seems like 5 venues are +- confirmed
https://www.touringcartimes.com/2020...lendar-europe/

Salzburgring, Slovakia Ring, Hungaroring, Aragon and Nurburgring should stay.
Guess that the 6 round will be somewhere in Portugal (Estoril or Portimao) where it is still warn in November
