Looks like part of the plan is to not have a driver known for bringing big pockets with them, rather being a decent driver instead:
https://www.williamsf1.com/racing/ne...sell-from-2019 Well done George, that's bloody good news. |

I like that signing, even though I think it might not be great for his carreer running around at the back...

Well it depends on whether he is last, or alternatively next-to-last-but-ahead-of-his-teammate. In an ideal world Williams will come out with a decent car though.

Great news for George and just what Williams needed at this difficult time. Hopefully he can show what he has got

Will be an interesting tussle between Russell in the Williams and Norris in the McLaren for 2nd best Brit in F1 honours.
I believe George has more talent than Lando. |

Some new, well paying sponsors might be nice to announce too...

The fact they have signed Russell means they might have something lined up

Could equally mean that they haven’t and are clutching at the Mercedes connection as a lifeline.

The quote below is part of a post by me in January this year.
Quote:
https://themoscowtimes.com/news/russ...ic-banks-63264 It all seemed too predictable really. There were comments made by Rotenberg in January this year that he did not pay Williams to take on Sirotkin. And that Sirotkin was hired on talent alone. That was a danger sign for sure that money troubles may lay ahead. Are Williams now going to be left short of funds for hiring Sirotkin this season? Is this the reason Williams are holding back on announcing their second driver for next season? Waiting to see if they need to hire a driver with money, or a driver with money AND talent? |

If nothing else all this negative publicity regarding the ethics behind the money is off-putting to other more kosher sponsors not wishing to be involved with dodgy practices, they might get bad publicity of their own by association.
Williams have admitted to difficulties in this area clouding their sponsor search. |

Which is probably why they are looking more to drivers with more talent than backing

Well unless there is a massive improvement in the car even the best drivers will be hard pushed to get through first qualy.

In the present climate, I think Williams are going to become a Merc junior team. Surely Merc will pay them a little bit to take Ocon?

So the Williams title sponsorship for 2019 has gone elsewhere. A Williams in black and gold livery, that would've been good to see. Reported that Williams were seeking further financial related information from Rich Energy, before announcing the deal post US GP. This must have made beardy man upset so he took his money elsewhere.
It would have been great to see the Williams cars in black and gold. But if the rumours prove to be true, the cars will be going totally opposite to black and gold. Pink and blue for next year is the rumour. A Williams in pink!?? |

They would be better off focusing their transmission division on selling racing transmissions for other categories, and buy in the Mercedes F1 gearbox. The BWT livery looks great! Sir Frank's favourite colour scheme is blue hence the blue liveries from '06 through '13, when there was no specific sponsor colour. So many sponsors!!!!
