Larry Perkins

apparently announced his impending retirement today? (I missed the news, so it's secondhand so far )

Bathurst will be his last race ...

RaceTime should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Motosrport News today carry it as lead article.

Retiring from racing at end of year but will continue with team and as test driver.

Also reporting that Ingall has been confirmed by a 'well placed Ford insider' at Canberra last weekend as being under a Ford contract for 3 years from next year (in similar manner to owndes and Ambrose) - now the hunt is on for a team to put him in...

Did I misread it? I thought it said something about him possibly doing enduros in future?

Yep, thats how I read it too. I think this is his last full year of driving, then next year and possibly beyond he will continue to test the cars and race at Qld/Bathurst only.

Who will Larry use as the regular drivers in 2003?

Steven Richards and who?

my guess would be Owen or that other young gun he has for the enduros...

Maybe if HRT shafts Bright, in favour of the likes of Radisich, Seton (rumours) he could find a home at CPR. Radisich is said to be unhappy at DJR, and surely if Glenn is offered one of the best seats in the country he'd strongly consider it, even if it is in a Holden, considering his current struggle. After Lowndes, anything is possible.

Seton and Skaife have also been friends since they were 5.

But we digress - thanks for everything Larry and all the best in your new role for years to come !

the rat cant go.....i just bought a rat hat in Canberra for my daughter

I dont know if Brighty would move from HRT to a second rate team (anything not TWR is basically second rate).....I would thing that they would bring a young gun in from the Konica series to replace the old man

But when he has second hand parts on a first rate team, what does it matter?
Didn't we all know at the start of this year Larry would retire from FULLTIME driving, and go into enduros and maybe a couple of other rounds next year.

you have to be joking, to drive in LP'S place?
Sorry I like WW and he is a damn good driver in some/most series but I think he lacks the respect that needs to be for this one. I can't really see him and LP getting along any better than LP and RI.

What happened to all these kids he's been signing up for the last couple of years. I think he was meant to do something with both Luke Youlden and Christian Murchinson.

Very few people have or ever will contribute to racing in this country as much as Larry.

Regardless of his personality, his record speaks for itself in Formula cars, tin top taxis and engineering.

I will enjoy watching him race this season for I am sure he is one of those drivers about whom I will regale stories of to my grandchildren!

3 car team for 2003 with 1 driver...
Larry's team is going downhill fast!
I can't stand Steven Richards, probably why Rusty has decided to leave i reckon, as for Larry he is a fantastic driver, but like DJ and Brocky his time has passed, and its not comin back...

Steven Richards is one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet!!! There is a romour that Fabian coulthard has done a test with larry and has been offered a konica deal for the last 2 races and if that goes well a drive next year. Remember not fact, not my first pic.

I thought he left Ford for Peugeot, not sure though, you could be right, anyone know?

Hmmm it will more than likely be a young driver, lucky he signed up Richards for this year, unless when he signed Richards he may have been getting the vibes from RI that he wasn't going to hang round once his contract was over.

Bye Larry, thanks for the memories and congratulations on a truly fabulous career.

At the start of the year, didn't we all think that the 3 car team was for this year only, as Steven Richards would be effectively replacing Larry. Now it looks like he will be replacing Russell. So who will replace Larry? I am confident it will be an Australian, Larry is very patriotic, but it will be someone who is experienced and has been sucessful overseas, Larry has little respect for someone who has only raced here. Unfortunately this precludes Wayne, who i'm confident would get on with anybody in V8s.

I would be very surprised to see Glenn drive a Holden, but then I was very surprised to see Lowndesy drive a Ford, so what do I know?
