Group R4

Lancer and Impreza revive.

From January 2011 a new Group R4 category will be created. A kit, homologated by the manufacturers of current Group N cars, will be made available for these 2-litre turbo Group N cars to ensure they can remain competitive with the Super 2000 cars.

Well if it allows the Impreza and Evo to remain competitive (and therefore still see them running up front in rallies), then it gets my vote!

Why do they not build proper S2000 cars?

Maybe an independent constructor might make S2000 versions of the cars?

Anyway, with the rumour about Subaru entering the WTCC in 2012 with an S2000 Impreza, could result in someone buying a group of cars and then converting it to rallyspec.

Impreza is too large for S2000 rally car.
Subaru don't have B-segment car(and inline-4 engine).
They plan to receive OEM supply of the I4 engine from Toyota.

The management situation of Mitsubishi will not permit the motor sports activity though they have B-segment car.
