I don't care if it's Audi or Toyota at this stage, just someone other than Porsche. They lucked into wins when even Toyota were hassling them at Mexico and especially COTA.

#66 Ford on pole with a 1:37.681 average. Pretty quick. 2nd place is the #67 Ford only .044 behind.

Nice clean lap from Nakajima

... Even better from Kobayashi and buemi

.. but not enugh for Audi

koby was first ...he did the fastest lap of the quali...but they took him out after 2 laps...

Nope, actually Sarrazin was first for the #6, then Koby, then back to Sarrazin. Looked like Toyota took a couple laps or more to get the tires up to their best, the 2nd driver lap times were a lot better.

That was a bloody close one. Top 5 on averages covered by 0.286 seconds and pole changing with every lap... bodes well for tomorrow.

That was the best qualifying (for lmp1 at least) all season, and one of the best in a long time. All 3 makes were right there with eachother. Hopefully it's the same in the race!

Very happy that I was proven wrong (that Porsche had a comfortable advantage).

Is the weather still supposed to be dry? I'm hoping so, which shows how exciting WEC is alone - it doesn't need rain to spice it up

Ironically, with Leventis sidelined from driving, Strakka Racing have their best chance in years of getting on the podium.

I notice the equally slow Ed Brown is missing this weekend, so maybe the 30 car will be more competitive too.

It isn't really irony, it's been known for a few years that Leventis is the weak link in the Strakka line-up, but as he's a genuine silver that is to be expected.

Also, not only Brown is missing, that car has a whole new line-up for the rest of the season.

Indeed, there's not much ESM about that car.
It's just OAK fielding a car for Gelael and friends. Which was convenient for all of OAK, Gelael and ESM since ESM is on its way out anyway.

Although I imagine that Toyota was more keen to get the most out of the cars at their home race in qualy compared to any other event, the pace looks real.

Did you see their practice pace though? They're genuinely fast on the long runs too. And they can go as far or maybe even further on a stint (at least to Audi) it looks really good for their challenge.

If anyone watched their onboard from qualifying, they were holding the boost from Panasonic curve nearly all the way to the finish line. They had the best sector 3 time even thought that's the most twisty part. Maybe they were running without the LM 300kw limit?
