My understanding is that the technical regulations are a bit up in the air

Yes, JAF has already released 2012 GT500 regulations.
However, it will be revised in order to aim at balance of a velocity differential with GT300 car. No media have reported the contents yet. |

1050kg, 550+hp was what you were saying before Samurai. Carbon brakes and winglets or canards on the front. These things are awesome. Basically LMP's that are GT's. Almost like the late 90's LeMans cars like the 911GT1 McLaren F1 CLK-LM and Nissan R390

They are the revision policy of 2012 GT500 regulations.
I have not read confirmed 2012 GT500 regulations yet. Autosport or Sportcar-racing.net will report them soon. (Yes, I will follow up them. ) |

1050Kg and 550+hp would be great. Somehow I don't see them adopting carbon brakes, we'll see.
Just curious, are the specs in the Gran Turismo videogame accurate? they list the 1999 GT500 cars like this: GTR R34: 1180kg; 702hp Supra: 1150kg; 686hp NSX: 1180kg; 608hp |

Those stats are with added Turbo's. I think they all made around 500hp IRL.
Carbon brakes seemed to be one of the talking points for GT500. I hope they use them. Braking distance should be shorter with lesser weight and more downforce. Added power will increase straight line speed to pass GT300/GT3. |

everything is done wrongly in gran turismo... so don't be surprised of reading things like this.
BTW carbon brakes don't reduce the braking distance (at least are not used for this reason). |

Braking distance should be shorter with lesser weight and more downforce, not because of carbon brakes. Carbon brakes will probably be fade free and more consistent though, plus weigh less, so potentially they would allow for better braking.

According to Sports-carracing.net,
Team Gainer (JIM Gainer) participate in GT300 class by AUDI R8 Ultra. (not Honda CR-Z ) They participate in WEC Fuji round by 458GTE, too. It seems that NOVA (Japanese agency of AUDI) sold two cars of R8 Ultra. http://www.sports-carracing.net/2012...tm#120108news1 Last edited by Japanese Samurai; 8 Jan 2012 at 06:05. |

Thats a shame on two counts
1. No Honda CR-Z, would've been something different eh? 2. They chose not to run the 458 again in SGT Its good to hear that they'll race the 458 in Fuiji WEC, hopefully we can see some more one off entries from Japanese teams. |

I think the CR-Z would look even more out of place than the Corolla.

A portuguese site had a quick news highlight saying Andre Couto was probably going to be without a seat in Super GT in 2012. The summary list that Samurai posted a while back seems to point to that also.
Andre mentioned that there are an increasing number of Japanese drivers trying to enter the championship and his Macau money is becoming to little for a ride. What is your take on this Samurai? Have they spoke about this on Japanese sites / magazines (Autosport)? |

The BMW story is old. I hope they don't go with 'DTM rules'. Maybe standard chassis spec, but not standard bodywork. Allow freedom within the manufacturers to design what their car looks like.

Standard chassis would be a big turn off aswell. It was a sad day for SGT fans when they announced the FR 3.4L V8 rule a few years ago, but at least we still can enjoy interesting and exciting racing with each car having it's own characteristics in some key areas, one is better in the corners, another is better in the straights, other is better in braking, etc... this combined with different looks of the cars is what still makes SGT series very attractive.
Introduce a spec chassis and an important part of that would be lost. I hope SGT stay as it is even if it means no DTM merger. F**** them. |

Nope.
They look too much alike IMO. The separation is the front aero and lights. SGT has cars thatre unique. You don't mistake a Honda HSV for a Nismo GTR or Lexus SC, their entire shape sets them apart. While the new DTM is an improvement, it's no SGT. |

You should have a closer look: the aero solutions on the side at the bottom and around the rear wheel arch are completely different and the rear of car (tail lights, position of exhaust, ...) is also distinctive.
