Craig, I strongly resent the post which locked my G'day EERO thread.
I thought the Gravel trap was supposed to be a friendly place, Craig. I am sitting alone at 11.21 pm in a huge office building in this camp, I see a friendly face in the forum and say G'day, and I get a kick up the bum. It took me over half an hour to get an internet line.
Considering the rubbish threads that has been posted in the Gravel Trap, I think this is really mean spirited. |

Not sure why this is addressed to me? I've not even seen the topic in question let alone closed it. But if it's a post directed at a single user then please use the private messaging system - that is what it's there for.

Have you read Maisie's reply. If you want to send someone a private message use the appropriately named Private Message system. You've been here long enough to know that by now.
Sorry if you are having problems getting an internet connection but that's not really an excuse. |

Grab a beer, introduce yourself, meet new people & have a good time! The 'Gravel Trap' is our pub, our place where we come to chill out and have a chat with friends that we have made on the main forums. Did I break some forum rule? If so, which word of my post contravened forum rules? |

Are you trying to be a pain? Sorry but in anyones language a message directed at one person is a private message. Sorry you didn't like the topic being closed but it's simple - just use the PM system in future please.

VB - you should have titled it: G'day EERO (and anybody else who might also care for a chat)
I've seen more frivolous stuff in the Trap (eg all those stupid polls) so IMHO you've been hard done by. |

One of my polls went missing a few weeks ago. That hurt...

There was no message - it was simply a cheery hello to an old friend. I was hoping somebody else in the forum would respond and say hello.

Yes, this place is likened to a pub, but what the point of effectively announcing "Hey, I'm going to say hello to my bestest buddy - HELLO!!"? All that does is a) start a private conversation, b) pointlessly point out that you're having a private conversation, and c) imply that everyone else is not worth talking to. *shrug*
I detest any thread that excludes or selectively includes any individual or group(s) of people, and I also take a dim view of any thread that becomes a private joke or conversation between a few people - that sort of thing makes the whole place seem cliquey, insular and unwelcoming to newcomers, and that's not what we're about. Sorry if you seem to think that the rules should be bent for you Valve Bounce, but that's not the case. Next time you think "This is gonna get bounced", have the sense not to post it. |

Boy, this is getting out of hand. It was a simple greeting to an old friend, not disimilar to the many happy birthday threads in the Gravel Trap.
I was hoping that not only Eero WOULD SAY HELLO, BUT SOME OF MY OTHER FRIENDS (sorry for caps) would also respond so that we could have a chat. I am not asking for any rules to be bent to suit me, not that I am aware that I am breaking any rules. If I am, then please state the rule I am breaking so that we can clear up this point. I only thought it would be bounced from F1 (where I saw EERO logged on) to the Gravel Trap. If I ever thought any thread I posted would be locked or deleted, I wouldn't post it. |

You posted it in the F1 forum?!
I didn't realise that. You know damn well what the rules are about what goes where in each forum and why, and yet you seem to think that this doesn't apply to you simply because you're in a hurry?! Jeeeez..... |

No, I wasn't in a hurry. I saw EERO was listed there, it took me half an hour to get an internet line, and I just wanted to say hello to EERO and maybe get a response from my many friends in F1. Where is the rule that says I can't say hello to anyone in F1? or any other forum? Quote me the rule.
And please don't use blasphemous expressions here. |

Maybe it's time to put in a rule about "barrack room lawyering"

Well, I was hoping that when EERO, who used to be the mod in F1 replied to me, we could all discuss something about Fernando. But as the thread did not have any content regarding F1, I guess a mod felt it wiser to move this thread to te Gravel Trap.
So Redshoes, please tell me what I have done wrong in a thread in the Gravel Trap where I say hello to my old friend EERO? Is this not the same as wishing someone "Happy Birthday" in the Gravel Trap? Surely we can't say that such a Happy Birthday thread is directed at more than one person. |

At least with birthday threads everyone can participate in wishing the subject a happy birthday.. Your thread was just a personal message saying hello to EERO.
If you wanted to then talk about Fernando, couldn't you have opened a thread about Fernando, and then said 'hi' to EERO in there somewhere? |

But seriously, I think that's very important. On another forum I visit it's full of personal messages, 'hi's to friends, all sorts like that... and it's horrible! You log on and basically feel totally unwanted there. I'm a relative newcomer there, and I've had the discussion with several people, and it is very cliquey and insular. That's what i like about 10-10ths, and I hope it doesn't change Last edited by badoer fan; 15 May 2003 at 14:43. |

At least, during the 34 minutes before the thread was closed. I wasn't aware that a rule has been introduced, which forbids us to say hello in a thread in the Gravel trap. On the other hand, if I remember correctly a rule has been introduced (last year?) which explicitely forbids us to start a new thread in the Gravel Trap just wishing somebody a happy birthday ... So how were we to know that the "birthday-ban" had been withdrawn and a "hello-ban" had been introduced? |

Don can you post a link to the thread where it is stated that we are forbidden to start birthday threads? I can't find any reference to this in the rules or in the "read me" post at the top of Gravel Trap.
Thanks. |

Perhaps Don is confusing birthday threads with "Official Ten-Tenths {insert topic here} Threads"...
VB, if you want to say hello to EERO, PM him. He'd notice it faster than the thread you posted (due to notification), and it only takes you two clicks instead of one. Last edited by paul-collins; 15 May 2003 at 15:52. |
