just read a new article on DSC where Doug Fehan has confirmed GM have granted the necessary budget for Pratt & Miller to continue racing, but does not confirm in which direction!.......well its hardly a secret that the 7.0 GT1 engine is destined for the back of an LMP1........the ACO are also visiting P&M in a few days and Michelin will be present, all in order to discuss "the plans"

but the big question is what chassis?.......I'm thinking a good immediate solution would be a Lola coupe, but surely long term they will want to do their own US based chassis........I seem to remember GM got their fingers burnt with the Riley & Scott LMP900 car on the initial Cadillac programme, then hired Nigel Stroud to re-vamp it, then he design the new version, which was not a bad piece of kit........wadya think will happen?

yup, I missed that one........GT2 sounds quite logical, as its quite competitive at the moment, unlike GT1, and it allows supporters to recognise the car as a road car, unlike an LMP........perhaps the LMP1 7.0 engine rule is to just allow the lease of engines to teams who want them........sounds like GM have no LMP1 chassis plans.........looks like GM are bottling out of going up against Pug and Audi, cant say I blame them as the current diesel engine regs are just plain bent and corrupt at the moment, 750bhp is a joke.

I thought the diesel regs were going to be adjusted . Im surprised they havent been already , considering that teams and manufacturers want to finalise their plans for 2009 .

ACO sitting on their hands as usual..

No respect for the manufacturers and teams, building the cars for next year.

K, guess I'm not the only one who thinks the ACO isn't leaving interested manufacturers out of the loop. I doubt they came up with the regs on their own but probably took multiple proposals to the involved teams to get their thoughts, both on extreme cost savings plans and then various increases in performance and costs.

I kinda get the feeling we won't see much change in the diesel regs until Peugeot wins Le Mans.

That makes no sense as Peugeots only realistic rival is Audi...............with a diesel.

Audi have already said they were informed before Le Mans of at least a 5% diesel restrictor cut, after Peugeots performance, it's going to be more severe.

Endurance Mag even hinted Audi may go the petrol route with the R15, hybrids also open up another potential advantage.

If Audi does go back to gas power it will more than likely in my opinion be the old R8 engine fully tuned out for max power as the engine still had a lot left in it as it has done close to almost 40 hrs on one engine before with no problems (05 LM win then ALMS Lime Rock win next race with same engine).

Now why would you say that?

Might it be that Peugeot is French and the ACO is French? and we all the ACO likes to make rule interpretations as "In the Spirit of" the rules?

Noooo, that would not be it would it?

Just Kidding . . . .

With the new Peugeot RC Hybrid, many rumors say Peugeot with new car with Hybrid in 2010!.
So i think that we also will se some Regs. on Hybrid cars, as Toyota is also coming with a Hybrid in the Dome(Toyota) car in 2010 (earliest).
What im also is wondering about is, if ACO will let other gas companies compete with different diesel types, as the Peugeot V12 HDI FAP is build take a more energy rich Diesel, which Shell don't offer! (my source to this is danish, but can be found on www.motorsporten.dk)

That is a very good question.

With so many manufactures talking about hybrids, and the FIA with the ACO following, there have not been any hybrids, to my knowledge, submitted to the FIA.

The FIA wanted several manufactures to submit Hybrid technology ideas to them for consideration. Then the FIA would decided on ONE hybrid technology for F1 and use for other racing as well.

This way it is easier to police and regulate ( gawd I hate that word, regulate) one hybid technolgy for F1, LMP and eventually LMGT racing.

More spec. racing, gag!
With the obscenity that has happened to Indy cars, I many just have to subscribe to some of the dirt track and drag racing rags, to keep an interest in current motor sports.
As Lurch would say--"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!"

Racecar Engineering confirmed Peugeot's Hybrid plans as more than a rumor last March.

http://www.racecar-engineering.com/n...this-year.html

Barge confirmed to me last week that it won't compete this year as speculated, and that they are waiting for 9/15 to clarify its plans and use for 2009.

Nothing's impossible, but with profits down by 28% this year, a significant cut in their 2009 sales forecast, and pushing the 10m goal back to 2010 I'd be surprised if Toyota did something as aggressive as buying GM this year.
