Bathurst ratings down??

Just heard a radio report saying this years Bathurst television ratings were down on last year and well down on the record ratings - has this been confirmed anywhere officially yet?

What were the official attendance figures?

You have to remember that last year included the Brocky factor, might be an unfair comparison. From all account numbers where down a few thousand only from the previous year.

the report said it weas down 100,000 average and the peak audience was almost 300,000 down. I thought the coverage was pretty good.

Brock would have been a factor but who knows how much. Around 2002 was a record year and a lot higher than this year which was suprising - I thought this year would have been a record.

V8SCA haven't been releasing any TV ratings now for about 18 months - which flies in the face of about 5-6 years ago when they went out of their way after each round to say how good the ratings figures are (were).

However, over the last few years, the figures have been steadily dropping overall (of course there are the odd race that rises - but not consistently).

inpitlane - you should have access to the 'official' figures - want to put together an overall trend for, say, the last 12 months, 2 and 5 years?

Also to note, AFL & NRL Grand Finals were also significantly down this year.

OK the figure V8 Supercars will announce will most likely be up on last year. On the back of Prime being Significantly stronger than 10 affiliates, which is a strong reasons for ratings announcements by V8SA to-date.

2.112 Million viewed on average when regionals are included. It won its time slot and pushed seven news higher and the delayed coverage meant it smashed ten news. Perhaps that was the reasons for the delayed start.

Matthew - the AFL/NRL are/were a one year effect though - I am talking about a trend over a number of years.

I don't know if they have been releasing the figures all year (I have been travelling a lot and may have missed the releases) but they most definately put out two or three releases at the start of the year announcing big ratings increases over 2006 in the early rounds.

I don't know about the trend over the last few years but you are definately incorrect in saying that they have not released ratings for eighteen months.

I'll stand corrected - I believe the exception to this is Adelaide. However, AVECSO/V8SCA used to issue a general release extolling the virtues of V8 Supercar racing and how good the ratings were each time they were issued. Over the last 18 or so months, however, this has not been happening (Adelaide aside).

From the Channel 7 PR Dept

Quote:
V8 Supercars on Seven’s coverage of the Bathurst 1000 scores a peak ¼ hour audience of 1.87 million and dominates across Australia – with 8 out of 10 viewers watching Seven’s 11 hour broadcast. Seven’s coverage also ranks in the top five programmes in all key audience demographics – outpacing Nine and Ten’s primetime programmes. In regional markets, Seven’s coverage pulls nearly 800,000 viewers on top of the nearly 1.4 million viewer average audience in metropolitan markets.
I think based on that they'd be delighted and the "alledged" $70 mil price tag is looking like a bargin.
And still with the Gold Coast, Bahrain and the final at the Island to go.

Newstalker, we dont get the full OZTam figures, you have to pay even bigger bucks for that. We only get a summary of each of our programmes.
BTW for Aug-Sept In Pit Lane did very well thank you

They're certainly down in this part of the world. Not only did we not get the live coverage, I haven't yet found any coverage. Chomping at the bit to see what happened and so far, zilch.

Not much Woolley, a couple of cars went round and round for 6 or so hours and then we had a winner. Not much happened at all.

The Singing Bee's wan performance distracted attention from another surprising ratings result for the Seven Network.
Its coverage of the Bathurst 1000 motor race had 100,000 fewer viewers than last year's telecast on Ten. The event averaged 1.335 million viewers throughout the race and 1.383 million for the presentations and celebrations. The race drew 1.436 million viewers last year on Ten.

If another of those V8 Urban myths is correct then C10 were forking out around $10M p.a. on TV production costs. The $70M over 7 years with V8 TV doing the production, costs included then things would have to run a lot leaner or they have to sell more rights for TV time to support categories or more on screen advertising rights being sold i.e. Stegbar fly cam. If production costs are $10M now I would hate too see what they are in 7 years. I beleive if this is true the Seven are happy with the deal.

Perhaps that why no HD as cost would be a factor.

Assuming that any of this is actually true.
