ah the 06 season, when Chilton came in full of self confidence only for Gio to wrestle that car to 2 wins and 100th Vauhxall win despite not knowing most circuits while Chilton no win ....

[WTCC] is over £1 million and it’s a lot of money. The average in the British Touring Cars is probably £500,000 with all of the testing and damage. If people don’t do all the testing and stay out of trouble, you could probably get it down to about £300,000, but obviously if you go away for a week or ten days testing, that’s £100,000!

“I hope I can announce something by the Autosport show in January. At my level I need to find a certain amount of money to pay for myself and my family. I’m away quite a lot with the World Touring Cars, so if I did more of a localised championship I could spend more time with the kids, but at the end of the day I’ve got to earn the money

Ugh, driving standards were awful during the naughties. We have a hugely improved product these days.

Agreed. Looking back now, some of the stuff that happened in that period was too far. These past 3 seasons or so are a vast improvement.

By that token, I expect Chilton to be mid-pack upon a return.

Chilton mentioned that he would return in BTCC only in a "top team"

Team Dynamics seems filled up, a different top team has an ego maniac

so the question is does he have the $$$ for WSR ..? ! the only other option Motorbase if they finally get their act together and can mount a consistent and serious title challenge

Does Chilton still have a reputation for chewing through his tyres or is that trait long gone now?

Jake Hill wanted to announce his plans before Christmas.

No news as of yet from 888 or BMR either!

I would love to see Jake confirmed as being back on the grid, but was hoping one if the top teams would pick him up, though as ever a lot comes down to budget!

Good to see Tom back, think this means we'll see Newsham in the Chevy at BTC Norlin, interesting to see where Hunter goes?

Chilton is a worthy addition to the grid - good news. Now I just hope the Astra is competitive.

In the reveal video, on Chilton's T-Shirt, is Alcosense branding. Perhaps Hunter is a team sponsor but not a driver this season? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e61NFe7X2d8

Nice to see Tom back. He's pretty quick, has got a lot of experience in touringcars and obviously a nice cheque book as well. A perfect fit for PMR really.
Interestingly, TCT is suggesting he may also be back in WTCC next year, the two series don't clash apparently.

So what is a "top team"?

Manufacturer backing, and experience makes a good start surely?

Would BMR have been considered a "top team" in 2014?

Happy to see Chilton back in the BTCC, it'll be interesting to see how he does.

Hear hear. PMR has proper sponsor backing, manufacturer support (not much, but more than a lot of other teams) and have been maturing slow and steady.

It will be interesting to see how PMR get on 2017, with an unknown package in the new car, an unknown entity in Proctor and a down on his luck Tom Chilton.

There is no way Tom can dress this up except as a step down from WTCC, if he was good enough he would of found a drive in WTCC, money is not an issue for the Chilton family.

Talk about spending more time at home just smacks of his heart not being in motorsport anymore.

I expect PMR to be in 2017 what they were in 2016, a mid field team.
