Just in case there were not enough date clashes next year the Donington Festival has been announced.

According to the promotional blurb it doesn't clash with anything - allegedly..... "The Donington Historic Festival aims to fill a very clear hole in the calendar by placing the needs and wishes of owners, drivers and knowledgeable enthusiasts at its heart." |

The blurb seems to suggest a highly selective set of race series and then further exclusivity in terms of which cars and drivers are invited. An interesting approach that presumably means the circuit facilities will be upgraded to match the anticipated clientele. That would not be such a bad outcome.
Will spectating be by invitation only as well? I don't think it looks like too much competition for the 360 on the basis of the information provided so far ..... I see Donington has the WTCC next year as well. After the escapades in some of the races this year at Brands that may not be such a good thing ..... |

It all makes the calender more congested for entrants. There are only a finite number of cars.
We will, all things being well,be at Donington with four cars which will exclude us from Snet which is a bit of a bugger as we bought a car to do that event last week. Will do a maximum of eight events which include HSCC 2 litre,Pre 63,Guards and any Pre War should Legends do three races which is very much up in the air. |

If, for example, the Donington Saturday is all qualifying then it may not be possible. I remember a few years ago someone - probably Frank Sytner - was shuttling back and forth between meetings at Donington and, I think, Oulton, racing and winning at each location. A helicopter and fortuitously scheduled timetables made it possible. Might be trickier fitting in with a 6 hour race - but you never know how things may pan out. |

It's all club racing.
Problem is Donington Races are part of series we intend to do and the Snet 6 is a one off. Pity! |

I hope your not suggesting a series of 6hr races John? Mind you, we could have five UK events and perhaps a trip to somewhere with a few hill's in Belgium, now there's a thought.

Is there really room for another major race meeting for historics?
Some already suffer small grids and the economic climate may reduce grids next year anyway. As this is a commercial event it is aimed at the drivers who can afford the entry fees which are likely to be much more than normal. I can't see that club historic racers will be welcomed, or could afford it. The long term danger is that we are seeing entries at the historic and vintage club meetings dropping as these "major" events cream off the more interesting entries. You now see far fewer vintage Bentleys at the BDC meeting than ten or twenty years ago and the same applies to MGCC, AMOC and even VSCC events where the rarer cars now only head to the "big" meetings. |

Masters is end May?That clashes with new CER Patrick Peter Extravaganza at Spa.
Donington Pre 63,U2TC,Legends so one hopes GTSCC and so on.All the best organisers except HSCC!They will be two weeks later at Sillystone. Its my 40th wedding anniversary so my wife tells me I am not going anywhere near a track that weekend.I had forgotten! |

Yes, Masters at Brands end of May 28-30 bank holiday. Their other major dates are April 15-17 in Europe, June 17-19 in Europe, July 22-24 Silverstone Classic, Aug 12-14 Nurburgring, Sept 1-2 Donington, Sept 23-25 Spa 6hrs. Portimao not confirmed as WSB there for the mid Oct w/end Masters have taken last 2 years.
If GTSCC have a grid at Donington for that May meeting along with all others it will be an impressive line up. The press release from Legends suggests needs of competitors will be put before 'off track acivities for spectators'. Not another Silverstone Classic then! |

Probably means the in-field will still be closed since that is where the main funfair rides used to reside ar spectator's family friendly meetings. |
